expecting attention from strangers

How can I keep my 15 week old puppy from expecting attention from strangers when they pass by? I know this is a good thing to keep the puppy socialized and all, but sometimes there are "non-dog" people in the mix. She will be in the sit command and when someone is heading her way she will stand up and wag her butt back and forth waiting on them to acknowledge her. If I tug her leash to correct her from getting up with out being released, I feel rude. Maybe she will grow out of it or is there is a technique I don't know about.

Mine too!

My 2 year old dog still thinks he can say hi to everyone! I don't know what to do either, b/c sometimes, usually the people want to say hi but he's a big dog and like you said some people are not dog people, so I pull him towards me and keep telling him, be nice, stay down, (I also whisper to him that "some people don't like dogs, can you believe that?" that's what I say to him LOL!)

I also try to keep him away from kids b/c he could knock them down.....

sounds familiar! when we walk bosley he will sit down before a person walks by in hopes that he will get some attention. i think it is a puppy thing. or maybe just a boxer thing? i think it is adoreable personally!

Teach your baby to sit when he sees someone coming by. If the stranger asks to pet Ask the your pup, make her wait until you give the release/ok. Explain to passers by that you are training your pup. Most people are very eager to help even if they are non-dog people. Those who want to participate will be pleased that you are working with your pup and it's a win/win. Those who don't care to interact see that your pup is learning and again it's a win/win. The pup learns not everyone is going to go ga-ga over her and the stranger learns not all boxers are 'killers'.

I think the best thing you can do is train your pup to respond to your commands. Chief does the same thing, but if I just say "Chief" in my "strict" tone, he will stop in his tracks and not bother the other people. `

Good thread...I have no idea. My two are the same way, heaven forbid someone not say hello! My two expect everyone to say hello, and if they dont they will attempt to figure out why they are not the center of attention....my little diva is the worst. Clay will get the hint and leave them alone. Ive figured out that its Addie's personality. If she's nt the center of attention she is not happy.
