I've noticed a correlation with Buster and him getting into the Christmas tree and being more rambunctious since it's gotten colder outside and I've not been walking him every day. I guess it's possible he's starting to go through those teenage years too.

Would like to get ideas on how to exercise him in the winter months (cold and snowy) to hopefully eliminate his boredom.

What do you do to exercise your boxer in the winter months?

I have had Tanner and Tyson out in the snow and cold down to about 10F. Usually we'll be the only ones on the trail so they will be off leash and running non-stop. This keeps them nice and toasty. The high for tomorrow is supposed to be ~ -17F. When it's that cold their potty trips are very short.
For an indoor workout, the laser pointer can burn off a lot of energy.
Have fun, MikeB

My girls have been a little nutso lately as well. The laser pointer gets a LOT more action in the wintertime. If I stand right at the top of the stairs the laser will reach all the way down the hall, down the stairs, and even into the living room a bit too. That wears Caney out for a little while at least, especially the stairs :) And as soon as it gets dark she LOVES chasing it around the backyard, full speed. I've gotten really good at keeping it just far enough in front of her so that she really has to run after it, but won't lose sight of it either :D

Creek on the other hand, will have nothing to do with the laser. She would much rather chew on her log, bark at her log, pounce on her log, and carry her log around the backyard. (When I say her log I really mean any old log she's picked out of the wood pile.) She could be doing this all day every day since we have a doggy door, BUT it's not any fun if there's no human to watch her kill the log. So lately, she's been attacking the laundry basket instead.

Other than shorter walks, you might want to incorporate some training into your daily routine. Training is a good way to tire out the mind.

It is so cold here. This morning is is minus 30 degrees C. (-22 F) with wind chills of -60 C. We only had very short walks yesterday and they will have to be even shorter today. Tara, my obsessive retriever will chase toys in the house forever, but Moto is much more difficult to exercise inside. We have at least another 3-4 days of this frigid cold and then it is supposed to warm up a bit to -22. I plan to make Moto some fleece boots today, so hopefully that will help. :)

Great suggestions...keep 'em coming. I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to figure out ways to exercise my boxer. Thanks!

Some days we've gone down to 20 degrees here and we still take Bonnie to the beach 2-3x's weekly for 15-20 min's. She doesn't seem to mind the cold but us on the other hand come home and were freezing. We also have a school across the street from us that we let her run in the yard 2x's a week for the same amount of time. I have no suggestions for exercising them in the house as i have no clue either for the days we me have to stay in. When it's raining and Bonnie has to stay in my husband will play with her on the floor and that seems to wear her out.

I bring harley to the dog park everyday for about 45 min. He burns off alot of energy and loves playing with his friends.

I take them on some shorter walks in the winter. But also a couple other things I do is take them outside and throw the tennis ball a few times. This really gets them running and you can split up the times too so you're not out in the cold for a a long time. Also, laser pointers work wonders inside. Chief will chase the little red light all night long!

Maggie loves the cold so it is not usually a problem. But mental stimulation can also tire them. So we might go to Petsmart so she can meet some new dogs. Also, walking on different routes is also helpful - new smells, new objects, new people, etc.

Maggie will perk up in the car if we are driving somewhere new - she is very aware of her surroundings.
