Excitable Urination

Our male puppy Neo has just turned 3 months. I went on holidays for a week and since returning Neo has had an excitable urination problem. Whenever anyone greets him (including myself) he wets himself. The more excited he gets the more he pees. I've tried to ignore him when I first get home but he still does it.

It's embarrassing when people come over because as with all puppies he's just so cute and everyone wants to pat him, but he pees everywhere. I don't know what to do. I'm hoping he'll grow out of it.

Anyone else experience this?

They usually do grow out of it. :) It is a submissive reaction. It will usually help if you crouch down when greeting Neo as it is not such a dominating position.

Good luck,

When Ozzy used to do that as a pup I would make sure he was taken outside to pee before anyone came in and it seemed to work, he doesn't do it any more.

My Jasper does the same thing. He is 11 mo and still does it a little but not as much as before. He will really only do it with strangers. But he gets so excited when he meets people he just can't control it. I hope he grows out of that quick. I have question though. Does anyone elses boxers just whine. Jasper whines all the time. He doesn't have to go out or anything it is just for attention. But he can be right on top of oyu and still whine it is like he can't be close enough!

I had the same problem with Rocky. Peeing while greeting is supposed to be a submissive behavior. However, I don't think it is the case with Boxers, I think they are just so happy and excited that they can't control themselves. Rocky eventually grew out of it. When I had people come over, I would put Rocky on a leash and let him greet our guests OUTSIDE!!! :)

Zoe did the same thing till she was about 4 months old. However we recently adopted a female dachsund and she is almost 2 and still does it! And I understand completely when people are over and they get so excited over her and then she pees. I have heard that it is a common trait with dachsunds but it still is very annoying. I think he will probably grow out of it. This subject is very common in younger boxers. Best of luck!

Boz still does this and he's 5 months old. Whenever anybody new comes over he gets sooooo excited. He doesn't do this to us though. We went to obedience class last week and he wasn't listening (he usually does) so the trainer came over to help me with him and he wouldn't go down. So she pushed him over and he layed on his back wiggling around with his long legs flailing around in the air and he started peeing everywhere. I was absolutely mortified!!

This may be both - a submissive urination and an excitement urination as your pup is too little to have a full control of his bladder. This will certainly pass :) My Tina used to do the same till she was 6 months.

WaHOOO...

I'm glad i am not the only one in this! Dasia is 8 months old and she will occasionally "bless" the carpet because she gets soo excited. Fortunatly for us she trained us to take her out BEFORE she visits someone. :D
