My boxer Guinness is two and just recently started excesive licking and paw biting phase. We took changed his food to grain free and the vet sad to give him a Claratin once daily (he is all white and his under belly and grion area get red raw) he also has a yeast infection on his right back paw... is also think he's allergic to grass cause he went to the park this morning with my dad and came back all pink and red! Any ideas or solutions would be helpful! I don't want to keep going to the vet dropping 200 a whack just for them to tell me to give them Benadryl!

The "joys" of owning an allergy prone dog...My first girl had allergies. Both food and enviromental. Since Guiness is having symptoms after spending time outside, you'll need to wipe him down before he comes in. Some people use doggy wipes (a tad expensive, but I keep them in my car) or baby wipes (I don't trust them, tho' many do. Somethings are OK for babies and not dogs. Aloe if ingested is toxic to dogs) or what I used was just a cool damp towel. If you have other pets they need to be wiped down as well to keep the allergens out of the house. Actually wiping him down with a cool towel anytime he seems itchy will help relieve some of the itchiness.
Keep windows and door closed, and change your air filter at least once a month. Housekeeping is a must. Dusting, mopping and vacuuming a priority. My girl's allergies were bad enough that I bought a carpet steamer and steamed my carpets once a month. Every other week in the fall when her allergies were at their worse. Wash any bedding regularly.

Yeasty feet, as well as the ears, is often a sign of food allergies. If you don't see a change after a couple of months with the food (it can take that long for the allergens to work their way out of your dog's system) try a limited ingredient food with a different protein source. Say your feeding chicken now, then try a venison or a fish formula. Many people like the Natural Balance line. Good luck! Alllergies can be very trying!

Another thing if you are going to be giving benedryl on a regular basis buy the generic at Sam's Club or Costco. What I saved on that alone covered my membership fee.

I also have to wipe devon's face after every meal. Plus she gets bathed in medicated shampoo. I ended up removing my carpets downstairs to help as well her (which is all ruined when she then decides to dig a hole to Australia in the garden)!! It just means that we have to wipe her down and wash out toes when he comes in!!
feeding salmon oil is supposed to help as well
