Everything together?

Hi - we have a seven month female fawn named Chesney and on Saturday we're getting a little baby brindle boy named Spencer to join the family. My question is, should we make a policy of doing everything with both pups or should we try to spend alone time with each? Chesney and I have a lot of rituals by now - we always cuddle on the couch for a few minutes just before bedtime, share a snack every evening, etc. Should we add Spencer to these activities or have separate special activities with each?

Thanks!

I think you'll find that your dogs end up by naturally doing most things together. But you should try to regularly give each of them some one-on-one time, and time away from each other. Partly that enables you to give them each ongoing training (something that is actually quite difficult with multiple dogs) but it will also help to prevent them becoming too dependent on each other. There are bound to be times in life that one of them has to stay overnight at the vet, or you want to take one of them somewhere without the other - well, the stress and upheaval will be far less if they're used to that from the outset ;)

Just an update - we brought Spencer home and they are doing great. Chesney is a little jealous and acting out a bit, but she's GREAT with the little guy. Plays gentle and even lets him win sometimes :) I'm uploading pics of the new little guy....

I just checked out your pics and wanted to say that your babies are soooo cute! I am jealous! I want to pick little Spencer up and just kiss his mushy face!

There's nothing like boxer puppies!

Thanks :) It is so fun having a puppy again... and it's even better this time around when Spencer has a big sister to help raise him. Chesney is so good with him - if he's playing with something he's not supposed to be, she'll take it and bring it to me. She's just so happy to have another boxer around... it's like boxer camp everyday :)
