Boxer Pal
Hi there, I have recently (approx 5 weeks ago) started raw with my 5 y/o female boxer. She has always tended to be a somewhat allergic dog so I have played with her kibble quite a bit trying to solve the problems - thus she has been exposed to many types of grain free/"novelty" protein type of food - albeit in kibble form. I just kind of decided to go with the raw and see how we made out. I have noticed that she seems to react poorly to chicken (and possibly eggs). Her symptoms are raw,red paws, itchy ears (although only the right one seems to have gunk in it), sometimes she rubs her back all over her bed after eating and have also noticed bumps on her body at times. During this 5 week trial - i have given her ground beef, ground chicken, chicken necks, eggs, chicken backs, salmon, sardines, chicken wings, chicken quarters, beef liver, beef strip loin. Now that I am looking at this predominately chicken & beef - plus Vit E & coconut oil. Her coat is looking nice and she has hair coming in on spots that have been sparse for quite some time. So, I feel that raw is beneficial, I just don't think I am going about this very well and I think I need to put this in a new direction. I stopped tonight and got some ground duck and duck necks with the thoughts of trying an elimination diet. I gave her the duck necks for dinner - she seemed to enjoy them immensely. When trialing for food allergies - do I just keep her on one protein source for 8 weeks? And I just walked her and she had a very stinky and loose poop ( is duck too rich of a meat source?) - or should I just put this down to a new food? Sorry this is so long. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
