Charlie (12 weeks) is crazy, which I know is normal. But every once in awhile she goes into "frenzy mode" where it's just bite bite bite run run run bite bite bark bark bark run run......etc. for like 5 or 10 minutes. If we are sitting down trying to watch a show or get something done we end up getting virtually attacked. We've tryed picking her up and holding her while talking gently, but needless to say it's pointless and we usually end up getting bitten. Does anyone know of a way to get a puppy to calm down a bit when they are extremely riled up? If we put her in the crate she just barks or whines or both. Plus I don't want to make the crate seem like punishment.

Well, the best way is probably just to ignore her. When she's barking, running madly and biting, she is trying to get your attention and play. If she gets no attention at all for it, then she is likely to give up since it doesn't work. And if she won't give up with the attacking and biting, then get up and leave the room (shut the door so she can't pursue you).

Once she does calm down though, you should make a point of playing with her - a reward for the good behaviour ;)

LOL - the mad racing around the house probably won't ever stop completely though. Boxer "burns" are rather notorious. Still - it's not a problem if the dog is racing around on it's own and has given up on the barking/biting behaviour.

We have a 4 month old named Belle. She does the same things. My fiance and I call it her "crazy runs". Ignoring her seems to calm her down. We used to get up and go to her and try to calm her down and all that did was make her want us to play with her or chase her. Hope this helps.
