my boxer pup(diesel) is eating his food fine but then when my other dog eats and leaves some or even before he get's to eat it diesel will sneek in and eat it and he knows he's being bad cuz if i walk in he runs. does anyone have suggestions of how to get him to stop. i'm kinda getting tired of having to put my other dogs food up

if your other dog is not on a special diet for some medical or weight reason and just eats noraml adult food (hopefully a great quality or all life stages food=)) then there is no reason you cannot just feed them both the same food now. If he is on a special diet or you really want to feed your puppy the puppy food, if that's what he's having, then you will need to continue to pick up the other dog's food. You can try to "train" him not to eat it but it seems like it would be much easier to just pick up the other bowl=) Just my 2 cents and I don't really know your situation. Someone else might have some better ides. Good luck.

Why is the food still down so that he can eat it. If the other dog does not eat his food, it should be picked up. As Diesel obviously can't be trusted, you need to keep watch. He is only a puppy.

i have been watching him but sometimes he slips in there. they are on different foods but that's not my concern. as you probably already know a boxer pup can clear out a bowl pretty quick so if he has more than like 10 seconds at the bowl it's gone. anyway my concern is i don't want him to get 4 or five meals instead of the 3 he's suppose to get. and here is the problem with putting up the bowl, my other dog doesn't really have a set schedule so he picks at it and i don't want to take it away so he can't eat. i try to get him to eat while diesel is eating or when we're outside but he won' always eat then, so i dunno what else to do but train him not to do it.

Your best option would be to train your other dog to eat at mealtimes rather than try to train a puppy to stay away from food left on the ground where he can get to it. Leave it down at mealtimes and then pick it up. It won't take your other dog long to figure out that mealtimes are for eating. I really don't think he will starve himself to death but it is unfair to expect a puppy not to eat it if it's there. It's making the puppy seem like the "bad guy" when in reality he isn't doing anything bad. The only other option I can think of is feed them in different rooms where you can shut the door and he can't get to the food. Or else feed them in their crates. You may give him food and eating issues if you correct him for eating what is just on the floor and could make him a fearful and anxious eater which can end badly in some instances and end up with a dog with food aggression. Good luck.

I always watch my three when they eat. As soon as one leaves his bowl, I remove it so that the others are not tempted. ~ Cathy

I agree that it would be much easier for you to teach your other dog to eat at certain times like your pup and I don't think it will take long for the other one to figure it out.

i agree with everyone.. your older dog will learn pretty quick to eat it while its there.. and if not it will be gone... wont take him long.. try it and see .. it is worth a try afterall... good luck
