could be he is missing something in his diet, does he take any suppliments?
if he is, there are many suppliments available that make their poop taste bad to them. I cant recommend one because Ive never had the issue, maybe someone else here can.

My flat-coat retreiver does this from time to time. I got some packets of powder from my vet and put it on his food for 6 days and he stopped for a while. Then I figured out there was a certain kind of treat that I would give him and it must not have digested all the way in his system. Every time he had those treats he would eat his stool. Then when he stopped having them he quit.
But the stuff form the vet works. It was $18 for 6 packets. The only other thing you can do is clean it up as soon as he does it. My vet said it can be harmful, it is feces, if they eat enough of it.
No matter what it's disgusting. We never punished him or yelled at him for doing it.Everything I've read said not to.

It isn't really uncommon for a puppy to investigate his poo. They do make supplements (S.E.P by Solid Gold as well as others) that stops the poo eating but there are a couple of other remedies to help stop it.
First of all, keep it cleaned up as much as possible. Some people add a bit of meat tenderizer to the dog's food as it make the poo taste horrible (from what I hear anyhow
) but I think there is too much salt in it. Pineapple is what we used. My Abbie was a poo eater and after adding a few chunks of canned pineapple to her meals, she quit.
It really isn't that big of a deal, you just want to have your pup stop doing it before it becomes a habit.

I feel your frustration! Cyrus does this and he just turned 2! He never eats his own though. He eats our other dog's, Baxter's. Up until about a month ago, Cyrus was on a different food than Baxter, so we thought maybe he was doing it because he liked Baxter's food. We've also talked to some trainers and they both said it's possible he's doing it to "clean the den" and to make sure to keep it all cleaned up as much as possible. Now that we have little Charlie as well, adding yet another temptation to him (so gross), we are being more diligent with cleaning up the poo at least once if not 2 to 3 times a day.
It's frustrating for sure! Hope you find a good remedy to get your boy to stop.

I taught Tyson the "leave it" command with the poo. Now he only eats bunny or deer poo. Still gross :( No amount of leave it will get him to quit. I'll have to start picking up bunny poo now too LOL

I feel you on the bunny poo. Dakota LOVES to eat them and there's random piles of it in my backyard. If there is a lot of it I try to pick up some of it otherwise he'll gobble it all up in a matter of seconds. I don't know if it's bad for him but it's gross.

I have often wondered if it has a "sweet" taste to it. I know the deer poop is under an apple tree in the neighbor's yard. And bunnies would eat pretty much the same as deer. I'm with you though, disgusting. But I can handle deer or bunny poo better than doggie poo LOL.

i would like to thank all of you for your help. jonah does not take any supplements. and fortunately he only eats his own poop. i am going to try the pineapple, just a very small amount, as he is only 12 weeks old, and see how that goes. i will let you know! thanks again everyone!
