Duke has recently begun eating grass when I take him outside. He does not do it every time, but its something I have noticed. What does that mean when dogs eat grass?

usually dogs eat grass when sick to induce vomitting.
i think there are other reasons but cant remember for the life of me right now!

i just saw that he is a little pup, it may be that he is playing with the grass...my pups have done that when they were younger

My Duke does it too..

Hi,
Duke does this too.. He is 8 weeks and I would say about 50% of the time outside he eats grass..
My dogs growing up did this too. I figured he was just playing with it too.

Grass

Thats interesting, because my lil SugaRay does eat grass when outside from time to time...and I do my best to stop him..so that he doesnt get sick...but I was very curious as to why they eat grass also!! Thanks in advance

there are various reasons why dogs eat grass. it is a normal part of their diet because wild relatives of dogs (wolves foxes etc) eat rabbits and such who eat grass, and therefor when theyre eating the rabbits squirrels etc, theyre in turn eating the grasses in theri intestinal tract (gross i know:P) Another reason is if they have an upset tummy theyll eat grass to induce vomiting it acts as an irritant and causes the dog to throw up--it also binds with whatever matter the dog is trying to puke.

Some dogs just like it.. others will run the blades through their mouth to gather info via smell/taste.
