Sam's Mom

Boxer Pal
My Samson is 8 1/2 months and every time I'm in the yard with him he eats grass, leaves and the seedlings from the trees that fall on the ground! Fresh cut grass, he thinks it's a buffet!!! I'll tell him to drop it and he will when it's a big clump of grass but the small stuff he tries to hide in those big lips with a look on his face like, "I don't have anything"!! I'm thinking I should have named him Hoover! Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Hammer should be a cow, he does the same thing. The only thing I can suggest to help a little would be to get a mulching lawn mower so you don't have as many tempting grass blades laying around.

I have also found that if I give Hammer a biscuit before he goes out he eats less grass. Sometimes he does this because he has an upset tummy from not eating for a few hours, but mostly he just likes to graze and eat leaves.

My Cleo eats grass too. The only time Jake eats it is when he's trying to get it out of her mouth!

Rocky thinks the back yard is a salad bar! First I want some monkey grass, then I will have a little bit of this shasta daisy and I will top it all off with some of my mama's strawberry plant (in a hanging basket no less)!

I was told by a pet nutrionist that they eat grass partly because they are lacking certain vitamins and such. He said to add some fiber to his food. Canned pumpkin is a really good sorce of fiber and my dog loves it. Pumpkin is 21% fiber thats higher than any other vegi commonly available.
