Eating Fire Flys

I don't remember my other boxers doing this but......Maggie loves to chase and EAT fire flys when we go out to potty at night. It is too funny to watch her jump and chase the bugs but she actually EATS them! Her tongue actually starts to glow! Is this bad for her? Will her butt start to light up at night like the bugs? I am a little concerned about this behavior, any thoughts?

Funny you should mention that.

My 12 week old pup just started doing it this week. I think it's fine. Better the flies than my hands or ankles.

So funny!! This is Greta's first summer even though she's 8 mos. old and when she first noticed them, she just sat there watching like she couldn't figure out how this bug could move around so fast throughout the yard-- her head was quickly turning every which way -- so quickly, her jowls were flapping! then she started trying to catch them -- it is quite entertaining

This is Baxters second summer...while he hasn't done it yet this year, beetles in the backyard used to make him go nuts last year! He would pounce at them and try and eat them.

That is so funny because our Maggie likes to chase and eat fireflies too. Our other boxer didn't do that either. She also catches those hardshell bugs outside and eats those-GROSS!! No kisses after I see her do that for a while.

Funny you should mention this because Chief was on the porch tonight cross-eyed with one on the tip of his nose! It was too funny as he looked like a little frog (his tongue slurping up the side of his nose in attempts to capture!)

All three of mine will chase pretty much anything that flys ( except our bird) We Call them the boxer fly traps.

Our golden puppy loves to eat bugs. We're at the end of the 17 year cicada cycle but when they were around, he'd eat them off the side walk. I hear they taste like almonds...Wonder what fireflies taste like?
