Not sure if this is the right place to post...

Do a puppy's eating habits change when they begin to teeth? Zuzu turned 3 months old on Wednesday and I have noticed that she is more interested in chewing things than she has been in the past few weeks, and less interested in eating. Is she too young to be teething? Would teething make her feel crummy and disinterested in food like it can with babies?

While I'm no expert at this we are presently going through the teething stage with Jag and I would say your little Zuzu is about the right age for teething. Our little guy started teething about 3 months, lost his appetite on and off and would refuse meals sometimes as those teeth would fall out and new ones came in.
He is going on 6 months now has, almost a mouth full of teeth and while the appetite is very good the chewing still continues.
Good luck!

Orion did the same thing when he was teething. One thing I did for him when he was teething was freezing a wet (not dripping, but wet) washcloth for him to chew on. He loved it! If you do that, just watch and make sure she doesn't rip pieces off and swallow them.

Good luck!

I did that for Dorian when he was teething, all he did was work at unrolling the washcloth, not a whole lot of chewing... smashicon

Thanks for the advice. Zuzu's grandma bought her a bone shaped toy that we can soak in water and put in the freezer, so I guess it may be time to bring that out for her. I feel much better about the food thing after reading that other people have had similar problems with their puppies. :)

When my boys were teething, I went to the Goodwill store and bought a leather belt and removed the buckle.
Leather is great for teething puppies and even babies, as it gets wet it gets softer and easier to chew. The more they chew the better, as chewing promotes blood flow to the gums thus easing teething pain. While cold/frozen items seem to feel good it slows/constricts the blood flow making them more uncomfortable during the teething stage. You can also message the gum line with your finger (while she is asleep) to help promote blood flow to the gums.
If you are feeding her kibble you may want to add some warm water to help soften her food.

Good luck it will all be over soon:D:

Most pups will go through teething at around the 3-5 month stage. I feed a raw diet, which gives pups plenty of chewing just in eating their food. That seems to do the trick - I've never had one have a problem with painful teeth and not wanting to eat, needing to chew so much that they're chewing everything in sight, or having to have frozen washcloths to sooth gums.

Even if you don't feed raw, there's no harm in giving your puppy the sorts of soft bones (such as brisket bones) to eat that will aid the teething process.
