Eating and not getting fatter!

I don't know if anybody remembers me. my Boxer puppy 'Kida' is a 2 month and 10 day old puppy. she's active and loves to play. but... she's a little skinny, she's not sick. the vet even said so, and she's though eating tons, like every meal she eats two servings! but instead of filling out side-to-side her stomach sags a little. I'm not worried, just wondering... is it a female dog thing to be a little skinnier than usual?? well, thanks anyway and you can contact me if you have any important info. at candice0777@yahoo.com thanks!

Hello Candace! I have a three month old female puppy. I think she is too skinny but the vet says she looks great. She told me that because she is so active and growing that she is not going to "look" heavier or fill out until she gets older. That is the best advice I can give you, hope it helps!

Could she have worms? That's what I found when our pup was eating and eating and not gaining any weight.

A boxer puppy is better to be skinny than fat. Excess weight only leads to increased pressure on growing joints and bones. It is far better in the long run to keep your puppy lean.

I don't know, obviously, how skinny this pup is but I'll take a stab in the dark and guess that you can see some ribs. This is good. If you see all ribs and the pelvic bones are not well covered, then the puppy may be too thin but to see ribs on a boxer is a good thing.

As to the possibilty of worms, well, that's easy...if she looks like a little starving child with all ribs and bones showing and a huge rotund belly she may have worms. The possible exception being a hydatid type worm e.g. tapeworm which they usually get from fleas or hydatid infected meat.

Another sign of worms is dragging the bum along the ground in order to scratch the anus and try to clear the area of worms or worm fragments.

No worms

my dog for sure doesn't have worms. we've checked with the vet, right now we're giving her the usual worm medicine. to prevent her from getting worms. yeah, I guess it's pretty normal, I can only see the ribs on each side. and well, she's fine, she doesn't seem sick. she runs around barks and plays. she's so cute! I just got some pics of her from the store and I'll be scanning them soon thanks for helping me here! and I'll notify everybody when I get pics of my little princess!

Our Britany tends to be on the lean side. She eats when wants.
Some dogs are just that way. Like humans.
Our vet says he would rather treat a thin dog than a fat dog. He considers Britany very fit. In fact one of his new vets treated Brit a couple weeks ago. He said he was told by our vet before that
Britany is one of his fittest patients. This is all because of her. We walk her and she is excirsed but she is the one to chose how much she eats. Its just her nature.
If the vet says your dog doesnt have worms I would not worry.

Hi, I thought I'd ad something to this post. I brought my 3 year old boxer to the vet for the same thing. He said she was fine. Maybe you have a pup who will grow to be like my Zelya. She puts all the food she eats into her muscle. She has excellent muscle tone but not an ounce of fat on her. It worries me a little now that she is bred but the vet still insists that she will be fine. I'm feeding her canned food to help her with the weight but I dont think your pup has a problem. As long as you trust your vet I wouldnt worry. It took me a long time to find this vet and I trust him 99.9%. As long as your pup doesnt act sick and has a nice shiny coat I wouldnt worry. Here's a pic of Zelya. You can see her ribs even in this picture...you can see how skinny she is..and she eats like a pig :D She just burns fat so well it makes me jealous
