Hi,

I'm not sure why but my 5 month old boxer has what i guess are scabs on the tips of his ears and it feels crusty like a scab but there is hair there and it falls out. I'm just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this problem and if so what did you use to stop or heal the problem.

Thanks

Mieszko has had ear problems like this for quite a while now - I've got another post where I described it pretty well - it had spread to most of his ears. He has really bad allergies, and when they treated him for a bacteria infection from his scratching, it cleared up his ears as well. At the same time, we had started giving him some nice raw egg and oil in his food each night as well. So... not sure what really helped this, whether it was built up dry skin, or bacteria, or fungus or what. He's still got a little on the tips, but the rest of his ears are a nice fluffy brown (well, gray) now.

Good luck!

We have had the exact same problem with Tucker. It is only on the tip of one ear for some reason. We actually had the vet look at it on our last visit and she said they were called "ear tips" I had never heard of this before. She explained they were allergy related. I just keep an eye on it and when he is really itching I just give him a benadryl.

Last winter Moto had a problem with scabs on the tips of his ears. I wondered if they had gotten a bit frostbitten. :( They did eventually heal and you wouldn't know they had been anything wrong with them. Just give it some time. :)

My 4 month old has the same thing. Tips of his ears are "crusty". I happened to have a vet appointment this morning for is last shots.

The vet said to try rubbing vitamin E, from liquid capsules, on the tips of ears. It could be dry skin.

I'll let you know if it works
