Okay, I have tried just about everything that has to do with tape and ear posting but Zeus is just so determined to get off the tape and does that im stumped at what to do. I have tried to find skin bond with no luck in the area. I have tried mole foam and Athletic tape and so far he looks like he got into a bad car wreck :( We have got his ears up and taped but lets just say it took alot of tape to thrawt his efforts at getting it off! If any one has any advice please share. I followed my vets instructions but they dont work, I guess my dog is a bit overly tenacious at destroying any taping job done on him. Thanks.

I have tried his e-collar but it just pushes his ears forward so that they are pointing forward like a bulls.. I dont think that would be a good look. :)

Is there a breeder nearby that can help? It doesn't have to be a boxer breeder, but a dobe or dane breeder would be able to help. Please be sure to offer to pay for their time. I get lots of call for assistance and although I don't charge, it does take a lot of my time, and I am thinking of a nominal charge.

Skin bond can be found at any pharmacy that carries ostomy supplies or I would think your pharmacist can order it for you. It costs around $15 per container and lasts for a long time, as long as you keep the lid on. :) It can also be ordered by phone or online by several pet supply businesses. Not sure if I can give the name of one that is owned by a boxer breeder? :D Maybe one of the moderators can say if it is ok. But, you should be able to find or order it locally.

You also might try cleaning the inside of the ears of any oils. Also, have you tried reversing the tape, so the sticky side out is on the post and sticking to the inside of the ear better? Are you putting posts down into the ear?? Many of my dogs will not tolerate that kind of taping, so I don't use it?

Hang in there.

:)

We just went through the same thing with Oscar so I know how frustrated you must be. Everytime we taped, he would somehow manage to displace the posts within a few hours, and untaping took a lot of fur off, poor guy. Plus he would scratch himself raw to get at the tape!

Of all the different techniques we tried, we found molefoam + skinbond to be the best. The inserts last for about a week, sometimes longer, and Oscar doesn't seem to even notice them!

Other people have had luck with skinbond + backing rod, but we found the backing rod didn't provide enough support and the ears pointed inward.

Try doing a search on google for "mole foam" "popsicle stick" (with the quotes), you should find a webpage with detailed instructions and photos for each step. Best of luck!

Ear taping

We went through almost the same thing with Drake. He would not wear the e collar, so we just had to watch him carefully and keep retaping. He HATED the tape, but we would cuddle him and eventually after about 10 minutes, he would fall asleep and forget about it. Maybe this will help.

My mom raised schnauzers and when they got ear-docking instead of e-collar, my mom put socks on thier paws. When they touched their ears it wouldn't hurt them. I do not know if this will work for boxers, but if it doesn't all you have lost is a pair of socks. -amy

You guys are great! I ordered some Skin Bond online and I have the mole Foam, so as soon as it gets here I can make Zeus a bit more comfortable. Nope, there isnt a breeder in my area, at least not one that does their dogs ears. I have tried reversing the tape, have tried putting the posts into the ear but he wont tolerate that at all so I fixed the mole foam just above that little nub in the ear, he seemed less aggitated with that.

I just cant wait to take all that tape off and use the skin bond. I really hope it works! Im going to pick up a few popsicle sticks and hot glue gun them along the mole foam like I saw on a website demestration. Thanks alot everyone. I'll let you know if the skin bond works!

I have noticed some Dobe's have their front legs taped together...enough slack to let them walk baby steps or what have you...I have never had a problem with the e-collar with mine so I have never thied the tapeing of the front legs.
Ears are frustrating and just when you think it's never ending with no progress they pop up on thier own! What a great reward to see those beautiful ears.
Hang in there

Sorry to thread-jack here but I have an ear question. Rosco is 5 months old and we are going to leave his ears natural. He has one ear that hangs down normal and the other kinda sticks out. Will the ear fix itself as he gets older? I have seen the taping / massaging method for natural ears and didn't know if I should pursue this now before it gets to late.

Again, sorry for the threadjack,
Steve
