Waldo developed a haematoma after surgery to remove a non-cancerous lump on his ear.The vet gave him anti-inflammatory injections,and this settled it down,the blood reabsorbed after 1-2 days.

I found the picture of Brady's ear when it was full. It is pretty bad and dark because it was taken on my cell phone but it gives you an idea. It was that big about halfway into his ear.

I had a female shep x who had a large hematoma on her ear that wouldn't drain on its own. The entire ear was filled with blood. The vet did surgery and stitched her ear like a teddy bears ear. The ear looked perfect afterwards and she had no trouble from that point on. The ear didn't shrivel up or anything. Something to consider.
