Ear Docking

This is probably going to be a silly question, please excuse my ignorance but.... What all happens to the puppy's ears when they dock them? Do they cut them or just tape them up? I have never had a Boxer or a Pincher before, so I don't know how they make their ears stand up. If they have to harm a hair on my Piper for her ears to stand up, then she will be floppy forever...
Thanks for the info...

Then consider her forever floppy

Yes, the cut the ear off :( The tape is then used to get the remaining part of the ear to stand erect.

I LOVE the look of a cropped ear, I think it makes them look so majestic, but that being said, I'd much rather not do that to my babies and leave them with those silky, smooth, soft floppers :)

PS LOVE the name Piper!

They cut the ear - that is to say, surgically remove a part of the ear flap so that you're left with a thin-ish strip of ear leather. Then the owner gets to spend the next few months (how long depends on the style of crop) posting and taping the ear until eventually the cartillage is strong enough and well enough "trained" to stand on it's own.

Your girl is already too old anyway. I like both looks but definately lean towards pain free floppy myself.

Im glad you are not going to crop the ears!! IMO it is cruel and COMPLETELY un neccessary!! Its just a fasion statement for lack of better words. Your beautiful boxer was born to have floppy soft ears, thats the way they should stay!!

I never even considered cropping Oscars ears. IMO it is painfully unnecessary and second I love the expressions he makes. But I did have to massage his ears when he was a pup because he had one that wanted to be a fly away ear. Which comes in handy because he loves his ears handled so it is easier to clean them now that he is an adult.
