Gator had his ears cropped in September. We taped and taped after 3 months of taping and having problems with tape allergies and having to leave the tape off for days to let his poor ears heal from the tape irritations, we still had one ear that flopped completely then I found the Quick Brace. I was "searching" the web for informations on ear cropping and taping. I decided to look around in the Doberman areas and I found the House of Hoytt, Doberman breeders and they invented this brace system, there is no tape and it is very light. Gator wore the brace for 3 weeks and his ear is now standing. He was able to work his ear with the brace on and I think this helped strengthen it. Maybe this will help anyone having problems with tape allergies, we also live in So. Florida so we have a problem with heat and humidity without the tape there is no moisture problem.

We had Gizmo's ears cropped, and besides scratching we didn't have a lot of problems with pain. They did eventually have to put a collar on him because he kept scratching the tape. However make sure that the tape on his ears isn't too tight because I have a friend who had a boxer and the vet taped them too tight and when they took off the tape his ears were cut into from the tape.

Titus' ears

Titus showed some discomfort at the vet's office when I first went to pick him up after the cropping. That was the last time I ever saw or heard anything out of him about them. He would bang them on the bars of his crate when he flopped down to go to sleep. I would cringe and watch him to see if he would react. Nothing- either he masked his pain really well, or he didn't care. I didn't have the stomach to retape his ears so I always let the vet do this and Titus was always ready to comply to their wishes. He'd even wag his stumpy tail while they were doing it! We were blessed because he only had to have them taped for 9 days! they stood up perfectly everyday after that! From what the vet said every dog is different when it comes to pain tolerance and how they react to the surgury. For Titus- it was a breeze- the only thing he hated was going to puppy pre-K and not being able to play with all the other puippies because his ears were taped up :(
