Ear Crop Friday!

Hi all!

This Friday Tyson is getting his ears cropped. I took the time to find a reputable, reccomended vet who is experienced in doing crops.

The same vet cropped the ears of my parents doberman and it turned out wonderful with very minimal discomfort (from what we could tell) to Levi.

I was just hoping to get some general post op advice from you guys on what to expect.
Do you have any reccomendations on keeping him comfortable? Sleeping arrangements? Anything yall can come up with, I really want to make this as seamless as a process as possible.

Best of luck to you and Tyson. I got my last Boxer's ears cropped and was so happy with the results. It's important to make sure once the ears are taped that they stay totally dry. It is also important to follow the instructions you are given after the cropping. Getting the scabs removed is also very important and will help the healing process (as well as give Tyson some added comfort). The longer you can go without having to do any re-wrapping of the ears the better.

A lot of it is dependent on good follow up care and just following the instructions given.

I hope you are prepared for A LOT of work. I love a cropped ear but you have to be vigilant. Make sure they stay dry and clean. I wouldn't leave the tape on longer than a week at a time. I took Indy back to the breeder to be retaped until the braces were done. Do you have someone that is experienced in the work after the surgery?

I hope it all works out well and the ears are beautiful. Tyson might be 6 or 7 months old before you can really enjoy them.

I agree with the above post (no pun intended). Stay on top of those ears. I would find a reputable breeder in your area that can help with the posting and taping, unless of course your vet is experienced in that area. Post, post and post...and just when you think your done, post some more. You usually want to keep posting well after they are done teething.
