For Nedra's mom

Just wanted to tell you your baby is really breath taking! As I venture into the world of boxer insanity I notice more and more boxers and love the individuality of each one! I love the way they can make me smile no matter what, but your baby is the first one to really take my breath away! This may also be due to the fact that I have never ventured into the world of a show boxer! Tyson and Ali's mom

Those Ears!!

my Sawyer has those ears too. My hubby calls them Gizmo ears. Me? I call the Baby New Year Ears. I think they're adorable. They're not up to breed standard but between them, his expressive face, etc. They make him who he is.

Absolutely it has something to do with lines - US breeders have never had to worry about breeding for correct natural ears - and I dare say most US breeders would not even know what a correct natural ear was. When the Standard is changed to allow natural ears, breeders will be scrambling to find good ones to breed to! ;)

I disagree to some extent...I think most good breeders know what good natural ears look like. The thing is, most american breeders are simply going to continue to crop. They wont be scrambling for dogs with a good natural ear set unless the standard was changed to disallow cropped. I hope that never happens...I firmly beleive that we should have a choice. Both options are valid.

There are more natural dogs showing up...most of those have UK, Australian or European bloodlines to get that ear set. There are a very few that are showing up as 100% american and have a good ear set. Hmm....that statement might be unfair...as we only really hear about the dogs that are winning. So far I have only seen one that was 100% american that won...but I will be the first to admit that there might be a lot of others that I dont know about. :)

So, they may know what it is supposed to look like, but they aren't producing it! ;)

I think many breeders are going to continue to crop, but I also think that many newcomers are going to choose not to. (And I do agree that it should remain a choice.) With the change to the standard, IMO, breeders should be looking to produce an earset that will fit either option. (Now, you're right that maybe they won't be - I do tend to get a bit idealistic sometimes!)

Several, anyway. ;) There are five 100% North American Boxers who have finished their AKC Championships (in fact, their breeders/handlers were just written up in the January/February Boxer Ring magazine :) ). Another one won some points a few years ago (before the standard change), though I don't think they pursued a title with him. After the standard change, an uncropped 100% American bitch puppy placed second in her Futurity class at ABC 2005, and there have been a handful of wins (100% North American as well as those with import lines) across the country since then.
