Dumb Coworker

I'd say some are ignorant, but after given facts on all the unwanted dogs and cats across the country and about puppy mills/byb, etc those people who chose not to change and continue on the same path are STUPID! I too have a stupid co-worker. What makes her even worse is she is involved with 4-H with her kids and their dogs, talks about doing rescue work and fostering, and in the same sentence talks about wanting to breed her Schnauzer so she could keep one and sell the others. Luckily for her schnauzer she hasn't been able to get her pregnant yet.(Has been trying for 4 years) She now has a famale schnauzer, female rottie, and male boxer/pitt. None of them are fixed. So no matter what I've tried she continues on the same path and I'll call her STUPID! JMHO

I could go on and on with stories of this coworker to prove my point, but I cannot (I have honestly wondered at times why she is still employed with us and how she has made it to the age she is for some of her past actions)...please believe me when I say she unfortunately IS stupid. She claims to love animals and would never want to see one suffer but yet thinks nothing of contributing to a HUGE problem by creating more lives. I did ask her what she planned to do with these pups and she said sell them, well what if they were sold to a "bad" person...she answered well it's their problem because they paid for the dog. I wish I could be a little more preachy and try to educate her more, but I am her manager and we live in a very letigious society...my dental office is owned by a very large nation wide corporation who would come down on me hard for my behavior. I have to be "professional".

While I could understand that some breeds were created by mating different breeds of dogs together for a desired result, I could hardly condone that without the proper care. If this were to be done with boxers & poodles for arguments sake would it not be better to have two REAL breeders do this. They would ensure proper health testing would be done, temperment taken into consideration. They would also care for the bitch during the pregnancy, make sure the birth goes as smoothly as possible and healthcare for the pups. I would also think they would find good homes with spay/neuter contracts for the pups that would not be kept to try to lengthen the line. Just my opinion!

Dora, I sympathize with you! We are having some work done on our house and in turn have had many different people coming and going all of the time. The electrician, Jeff, is very nice and has recently made "friends" with Daisy. The other day when he was playing with her before he left for the night he asked me if she had been spayed. As soon as I said yes I knew what was coming. He went on and on about breeding her and why would I do that to such a beautiful speciman. I tried to explain backyard breeding to him and health testing but he just didn't understand.

Well, yesterday he told me that his friend is mating his female boxer and he's going to take one of the puppies! I couldn't get into an argument with this guy so I bit my tounge, said congratulations and then said goodnight.

I know how you feel- just last week one of my patients (who has a boxer) and knows I have one, mentioned something about breeding (mind you, this woman will do anything to make a $$ off of someone--which she will gladly tell you up front too that she's in it for the $$) and next thing I know my mouth opens and I start going off about BYB's. Later I mentioned something about wanting to get a second boxer- so she says something about buying from some "breeder" she knows (reputable or not, I dont know). I told her that I will not be entering my dog in shows, therefore I do not see the need to pay hundreds of dollars for a dog when I can go to a rescue and save the life of a beautiful boxer. I rescued my own dog from a loser of a BYB. I feel a lot better knowing that I taught that guy a lesson (b/c he had to listen to my rant on BYB's
