Thanks for the comments, glad people appreciate the site. Duke has been a handful since day one. But overall he is a fabulous dog, he puts a smile on our face every day!

I'm overdue for a blog entry, but I've been trying not to fill the site with random boring entries. So I try to just post up the good stuff, and when I have some photos. Speaking of which, I have some photos from the last week or two that I'll need to post up soon (maybe tomorrow).

Wow Duke has his own blog, dang I'm going to have to add that to Mercedes website. I agree with above one of the best websites I've seen. How was Duke on canoeing I'd hate to tip over now in the saco even in August its still got to only be 50 degrees.
Again the site is awesome, love the pics love the features, I'm going to have to steal some of your ideas, must took a lot of work my site took about 1/2 hour to set up.
I think you'll find many regular duke blog readeres here, thanks for sharing.

thanks for the complements. but scary isn't it? I got him his own domain name and everything. I must not be right in the head!

Duke did awesome on the canoe trip. It was a canoe/camping trip, and he really did quite well. Since he is just a puppy, we took him to my parent's pool to make sure he knew how to swim. And low and behold he can just barely keep his head above water. We kept a harness on him at all times when he was in the canoe, so I could pull him up by it, if he jumped out or if we tipped over. While in the canoe he mostly just sat or layed down. He's not a big fan of water, so he didn't seem too eager to jump out. Katie found a cheap umbrella made to clamp to a folding chair. It worked great to keep the scorching sun off him. yes the weekend we went it was hot hot hot. the water was nice, but at night the temperature dropped a good deal (way down in the low 50s one night). Duke stayed curled up with us in our tent. He sleeps in his crate at home, but let me tell you, he LOVED sleeping next to us in the tent.

As for the website... it actually only took me a few minutes to whip together. Mostly open source/gnu software pieced together:

-apache/php/mysql
-wheatblog (blog software/main page. nice simple, easy to setup. mysql database backed)
-mig (photo album, already used this for other projects, so just recycled code)
-and some small bits of html/php coding for a couple things I wanted that didn't come out of the box from the wheatblog package.

My goal was something plain/simple, easy to navigate, and easy to modify to meet my needs. I really don't have that much time into the site so far. But I may tinker with some more code down the road. For now I'm pretty happy with it's simplicity.

Oh, and the scariest bit, is that there is an "rss feed" for the site (part of wheatblog):
http://www.duketheboxer.com/blog/rss.xml
If you have an rss feed/ticker, you can add that URL to it, and it will notify you when there are updates to the site, and show you the "headlines" of the posts!

Mercedes just called me to complain that she doesn't have a blog, and she wants one! get to it! :-D Btw, she is a cutie! I wish Duke liked the water as much as she seems to!
