Dukes scar is nasty - any suggestions?

Hi all, I posted a few weeks ago that Duke had surgery to remove several follicular cysts from his head. The cysts were so close the vet had no choice but to make one big incision to get them all. After 3 trips to the vet for popped stitches - this is what his head looks like.

Any advice for making the scar less visable? I know it will fade - but I am growing tired of the frankenstein references...

DH had surgey on his neck last year to fuse his vertebrae (yep, this is the same guy that had the flying rock episode this week). The doctor recommended vitamin E capsules (just prick the capsule and spread it on). Since the incision was on the front of his neck, he was concerned about scarring. Although it's still pinker than the rest of the skin, it looks pretty good.

Awww! He's so cute. It's not as bad as you think. I know what you mean though about the comments. It's like the lady that's not really pregnant and people ask her when it's due. My sis-in-law gets that alot. But to her defense she did have a baby a couple of months ago.

It gives him character.

Poor Duke hope he feels better soon. I think that E45 cream would be better at the moment, it is a new scar and will fade in time. I was told about Vit E oil when I had surgery last year, and I went ahead and used it (on my 13" scar), far to soon!!! it really aggrivated my scar. I asked my GP about it and she said it's like Bio Oil and shouldn't be used for a few months after surgery.

I really don't think it looks that bad. Duke is rather cute. It will fade and not look so pink, but I wouldn't think that it would go away completely. Vitamin E ointment will certainly help.

Anybody that can't say anything nice about him, shouldn't say anything at all.

monty had two operations when he was one to remove four cysts just like Duke...he looked more like frankeinstein ....take a look in my gallery..Monty with stitches...then monty after...just fine as Duke will be.
Monty is now 9 and just 3 months ago he had 3 ops in one...one again to remove a fleshy lump off his head...as he was starting to go a bit grey I was worried that the hair would not grow back his lovely red/brindle...but it has and he's a beautiful as ever...the scars are there but if your vets done a good job they're hardly noticable

I have seen commercials for the scar minimizing cream called Mederma. I don't know if it is safe for use on dogs or not, may want to ask your vet. Not sure if the product even really works, I have never used it. Just a suggestion. I do know this, when I was in a car wreck and had a nice gash on my chin, one thing my Doctor told me was to keep it out of the sun. When a scar gets sun, it will darken and not get lighter. Please put sunscreen on Duke when he goes out. I really don't think his scar looks that bad, it is fresh and it will lighten and smooth out over time. He is still a very handsome boy!

Grace had a cyst removed from the same place. Much smaller incision but eventually it covered up.

Tell Duke "chicks dig scars" and it'll add character.
