Deuce

Boxer Pal
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions that I could do to better relieve Deuce's dry skin? I've tried various shampoo's.

I don't know if it is cold where you are, but Dee Dee tends to get a little flakey in the winter because the air is so dry with the heat on. I have a humidfier running in the house, which seems to help. I also use an oatmeal-based shampoo that made a huge difference. Any other kind of shampoo turned her into a flake-monster. You don't want to bathe too frequently if their skin is dry though.

Diet might be playing a role as well.

Our Chloe had very dry flakey skin when we first brought her home. Our vet gave her 3v caps they cleared it up in a matter of days. It has fish oils omega-3 fatty acids plus vitamins A,D&E. It's great for their skin.

Yep, winter time can be tough on the skin. We use the 3V caps (fish oil) as well, but some of the quality kibbles out there have this (fish oil) in them. What are you feeding your pup? I don't know how much you bathe your pup either, but too frequently can cause skin dryness and irratation as well. When we give Ramos his baths we use Miracle and have had no problems.

The above mentioned suggestions work great. Also, frequent brushing will help to stimulate the natural oils of the dogs skin. This will also help with dull/dry coats.

Our Deuce has dry skin too

Our baby (also Deuce) has sensitive, dry skin also. The condition of his coat seemed to improve after we switched his food to Nutro and brushing definitely makes a HUGE difference (plus, he loves it). We tried an oatmeal shampoo but it made him break out although I have heard this works for others. Good luck!

Lanolin spray

A breeder friend of mine suggested I try Lanolin spray after a bath or wipe down. I've only tried it once, but it made a HUGE improvement. He was silky smooth, flake-free, and super shiney. Smells good, too! :)

Evie gets really dry skin in the winter too. I give her an oatmeal bath and then use a lanolin spray too. For really itchy spots, i use a hydrocortizone spray :)

spray conditioner

Tyson gets the same thing so I bought a spray conditioner at the pet store for him and it works great. Just spray a little on him and brush it in a little and the dandruff is gone and he shines unreal. Too many baths can dry his skin too so if it is not severely dry skin I'd try the conditioner first.

Oscar gets dry flaky skin from time to time and we put a bit of olive oil in his food about 0nce a week or two to three times a month. Or if we are cooking bacon we will put some of the drippings in his food. The vet said this was fine and it's worked wonders, his coat is shiny and I haven't had that problem in about 2 years. I don't give it to him everyday, I try to do it on occasion but it does help.
