dry eye

taylor was just diagnosed from his vet with an eye condition called "dry eye" he is only 1 1/2 years old. ive been reffered to a dog optomologist. his eyes are always dry and greenish boogers constantly cover his eyes. they are swolen and seems to make him have a hard time with his vision. he ducks as if going to be hit if anyone goes near him, we've NEVER hit him (never had to he's been a great puppy). currently the vet has us putting in eye drops and a eye ointment twice a day...but it doesnt seem to work for very long. does anyone have any experience with this condition in any of there dogs? is it common in boxers? my vet seems baffled...hopefully the optomologist will have answers. meanwhile poor taylor is miserable....thanks

Boxer eye problems

Our Boxer of 8 years had what they call boxer eye. But he got an ulcer in his eye and it never healed. If he has greenish discharge then he has an infection of some kind. When our 1.5 yr old boxer had that discharge from his eyes the vet diagnosed him with salmonella, which we believe he had when we got him. He had real runny poops and threw up about once a week. The meds cleared it right up.
