Hi,

I am very confuse in picking the better dog foods for my boxers...
I was told that chicken in the dry food is not suitable for boxers as they have sensitive skin. It may lead to skin problems...
Is it true?
I wanted to get Innova...but Innova mainly consist of chicken...
Can someone enlighten me?

Thanx!

Absolutely not true at all. While its true that dogs can have an allergy to anything, it is far more common for allergies to be attributed to grains than anything else. Grains are not a natural source of nutrition for canines, and they have a very difficult time digesting them.

That being said, a good food will have several (altleast 2, preferably 3 or more) meat sources within the top 5 ingredients. Grains are virtually unavoidable in dry dog food unfortunately, but the further down the ingredient list they are, the better. And of course, some grains are better than others (e.g. avoid corn in any form, brewers rice, whole wheat).

More information at www.boxerworld.com/feeding

Now that I've said all of that, Innova is one of the best dry dog foods out there (if not the best). Good luck :)

Here are a few really good one's we've fed:

1. Merrick
2. Chicken Soup
3. Blue Buffalo
4. Nutro Ultra
5. Solid Gold
6. Nature's Variety Prarie
7. Wellness

You can do a Google search for the Whole Dog Journal & find lots of premium foods.

Hi,

Thanx for your reply...
I am currently feeding canidae but I was told that the protein for this food is not good enough for my boxer pups. Now thinking of switching to Innova for the protein.
Yes, I will avoid grains as the boxers cant digest them well.

Hi,

THanx for your intro on good food. I wanted to try chicken soup but the distributor in my country is gone.
Now, I am looking into Innova...

Canidae is an excellent dry dog food. It definitely has enough protein for your pups. Who keeps giving you this bad information, LOL?

You can compare the ingredients with www.boxerworld.com/feeding to make an informed decision. I would also recommend you take a look at the section on puppy food too, though. Specifically:

Puppy growth problems are at least partially attributable to over-nutrition, and excess amounts of protein and calcium commonly found in puppy formulas. In some cases, puppy foods can have protein levels up to around 44% (versus around 22-25% for adults). So why would you feed a puppy formula in the first place? There is no reason to suspect puppies need different food from adults – and post-weaning, they certainly wouldn’t have got different food in a natural environment. Humans and other mammals don’t feed their children different food either…

Our advice would be to avoid the large breed and puppy formulations completely, and to choose instead a good quality adult or all-life-stages food instead.

Canidae is a terrific all-stages food for your puppy or dog. :)

Sad to say, is the sales person misleading me again.
Yes, I like the ingredients in Canidae.
Will do more research...
Thanx!
