My wife was driving in NYC with our two boxers in the back seat and was pulled over by the police. They informed her that it was illegal to be transporting uncrated dogs. They let her go with a warning, but I have never heard this before. Does anybody have any insight into this?

Hello there...I never heard of that before! Huh...well I just drove to FL to get my boxer girl amd back (Long DrivE) she wasn't in a crate...never heard of that! Maybe it's just in NYC?

I don't think it is illegal here. I sometimes feel like I am the only one around that uses a doggy seatbelt!

Doggy seatbelt

Hey yea.... I was going to get one of those for our trip, but they didn't have anymore... my husband and my dad just laughed at me when I told them about the doggy seatbelt. I think they are neat... I always hold my arm up if I have to stop quick so my zeta doesn't fly up front with me!

And what happens when you get into a minor fender bender and the front passenger airbag goes off while your baby is in the front seat??? That's why I bought one and now keep Sapphire in the back seat.

You can put your seat belt through the handle of a 12" leash and attach it to a standard harness. I leave the 12" leash attached to the seat belt and after I put my dogs in their seats, I just hook their harness up. No muss, no fuss. Just make sure they have a sturdy, comfortable, secure harness.

Some states require your doggies stay in the backseat but i am not so sure it is enforced. I use a doggie seatbelt because sadly Bhoj has been in an accidentt with me and i didnt have one before.

It's not illigal in Vegas either. I'm sure that they prefer you not to have your dogs loose in the vehicle...but every state/county/city has their own set of laws when concerning animals.

The main concern is that the dog can become a projectile if ever in a bad accident not only injuring itself but the driver. Not sure how much it is enforced but our vet sells the seat belts for a really great deal so why not? Alot of people with smaller dogs I have seen sitting on their laps and it is extremely dangerous as they are even more likely to go "flying" in an accident. It is called an accident because it is not planned so...you never know
