Drinking A Lot!!

This may be a crazy question but it seems like Roxie drinks an excessive amount of water. She will wake us up in the middle of the night so that she can go get some water and she will drink for what seems like 5 minutes straight. Could this be a sign of a health issue?

My Maia does the same thing. She will drink so much that she will throw up. We always have to pull her water away from her so she doesn't drink too much. I have wondered if it doesn't have something to do with her food-maybe too salty?? Not really for sure.....

drinking a lot

excessive thirst can be indicative of a health problem, but it is also a somewhat common boxer trait. Chloe is perfectly healthy, but she will drink until she throws up as well. We have to limit her water, otherwise she is constantly throwing up from drinking too much.

Lewis drinks a lot of water as well. Not always a good thing before bed time. If he drinks too much we know it will be time to get up for a trip outside during the middle of the night!

Molly does this as well, part of the problem (as described by me vet) is that Boxers tend to have loose lips (duh) but that makes them spill alot and ingest a lot more air when they drink. The resulting purge(throwing up) is the air trying to escape not because they drank to much.

Mine does too!

My Krissy girl drinks TONS of water! I haven't gotten my lick-it installed in the back yard yet so I have a huge 5 gallen bucket that my four dogs drink out of throughout the day. They could easily go through the whole bucket twice if I let them!

To stop potty breaks through the middle of the night (and because we're in the process of house training Krissy) their water is limited. Throughout the day they can drink as much as they want but no water after 11pm with a potty break before bed at midnight and then they can just about make it through until 7am...normally it's about 6:20 when they wake me up...

My terrier holds it from about 10pm until 8am! I don't know how because she drinks her fair share of water too but I think it's because she isn't as active. She sleeps straight through the night from about 10 to 8 anyway.

Once I get the lick-it installed I won't be able to limit their water like that but hopefully Krissy will be fully potty-trained soon so it won't be a problem!
