Down - She refuses to do it

i did what mancin did to teach down as well...and it worked so quickly...i'm wondering if you've been using the word down now for so long to no avail, maybe you need to change the word. it may have lost some of its effect after being used and used, know what i mean?

I have to agree with that maybe it's the word 'down' I too have to tell Jade 'lay down' and thinking about it, do you ever tell your dog 'down' when she jumps up? If so she might be really confused on what that word means if she hears it for two different things.

We used Mancin's method also. My cousin told me how well it worked on his lab and sure enough, it worked on the first try with Deuce. You just have to do whatever you can to get him in that position and then praise like crazy. Down is his best command now b/c we make him lay down whenever he gets wet food so if he is ever in doubt about what a command is, he just lies down. Can't beat that -- hard to get in trouble from that position

It took Brittany almost 6 weeks to get the 'down' command, this week she finally got it, I had a few liver treats and had her sit and then down and down she went, finally clicked with her. She also refuses to sit on hard wood floors, our entire apartment is hard wood except for the run in the living room, so that's where I have her do it. But now she won't get up, she stays in the down thinking she will get more treats
