Double the Love...

I love having two now but it did take a lot of adjusting. They love one another to bits and are always side by side, they are so different Rocco is quiet and so good & Lola is so loud and soooooooooooo naughty .
They sleep together, eat together, play together BUT Rocco won't take the blame for Lola's behaviour!!!
On our walks is the best thing they just run off and play like there is no one else on the planet. There are so many good things about having two, but you do notice the food bills, vets bills, insurance bills more.
I don't regret our decision one bit and would urge anyone to have two but I wouldn't have three, two is enough for me

I have only had 2 for a couple of days. But Violet is being a really good role model for Scarlett. Its so cute to watch Violet try to engage Scarlett in playing. She dangles toys in front of her and waits until Scarlett bites on, and then they play. TOOO Cute.

Some one had posted about their boxer liked to lick them while they were in the bath tub....now I have 2 licking my arm while I am in the tub.... .

Two was no more trouble than one. Three is a little extra work. It is worth it to watch them bond and play with each other.

fOR JIFFER: I actually think that it is substantially easier with two than it was with one...in so many ways! Of course, there is twice the expense with food and vet bills, and twice the poop to scoop, but honestly, as far as a down side, that's it. As long as they're trained properly (which, I'll admit, does take some effort!) you shouldn't have any food aggression issues or at least not real "fights". Ours squabble over toys (why I even bother to buy two of anything, I'll never figure out), but even that can be quashed by a "leave it" command once I've had my fill of listening to it. I don't feel guilty when we have to leave them for a bit, because they have each other. Even when we are home, they're less work because they play with each other as often as they want to play with or get attention from us. They can run in the yard and chase each other and wrestle together and do all of the things that dogs are hereditarily predisposed to do, in their little "pack" of two. I seriously wouldn't have it any other way, and that's just as it regards their well being and not even getting started on how great it is for us in the way of double the love, double the greetings, and exponentially increased entertainment value! They are an absolute RIOT to watch together. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed by an addition to the family.

I completely agree with you, Barkley! I think two is way easier than one in terms of attention. I don't know what I'd do if still just had Riley-he'd go crazy! This way, if I'm home but can't play (doing homework, chores, playing on Boxerworld ), then they have someone to entertain themselves with-each other! It is, without a doubt, one of the best decisions I have ever had to have two. Plus, with double the love, double the kisses, and double the snuggles and entertainment, I can hardly remember double the money :D .

Yes it is a coincidence. I heard the name Rocco on TV one night just before I picked him up and Lola is Mohamad Ali's daughters name. Very few people have picked up on the Madonna bit and it was never my intention.

Yesterday we actually made a plan to drive out to the Boxer rescue today with Kronk and hopefully bring home a buddy for him. However, my husband tossed and turned all night worrying what it was going to be like having another "Kronk" around!

I'll have him read all your replies and I'm sure it will help him feel better. It definitely made ME feel better!

My thoughts were, double the poop, double the chewed up stuff. Double the food costs, vet costs, toy costs, training costs. Double the chaos.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I am not on the forum as much as I'd like to be these days.

I noticed you said that you are afraid of "Double the chaos." So I thought I should add that we would not have made the decision to get another if Lael wasn't matured and fully trained. We put in grueling hours of constant socialization, training and (of course) love for Lael to turn out so well-behaved and socialized. We treated her like raising a child and the result is an incredible dog that most visitors to our home cannot help but comment.

I am not trying to brag. But the point I am making is that Lael did not create any kind of chaos in our house. In fact, she was able to enter into our daily routine as a happy and loved family member. So when Eva was added, Eva picked up the 'hierarchy' of the 'pack' and the daily routine very quickly. Once she was able to adapt (and this was not without much effort on our part), the transition was seamless.

Okay, so I'm not saying that in order to have a successful two-some plus that you have to go the great lengths we went to. But from our experience, minimizing the 'current chaos' in the house will help a lot when adding another.

Having said that, Lael and Eva have very different personalities. If Eva were first and Lael was added second, I firmly believe the dynamics would be entirely different. And, of course, your own family dynamics effects everything. So every situation is unique.

Congrats!! Kronk will most definitely LOVE having a buddy. Dogs need dogs. And this forum is the most comprehensive resource you will find to help in the transition from one to two. Enjoy double the love!
