Double Devastation

We are sad to say that we lost both our boxers in a span of 11 days back in September. We lost our beautiful Gunner ("baby Gunner") on September 12th. We lost our handsome Bentley ("Benny") on September 23rd (5 months ago today). To go from having the 2 most beautiful boxers (all boxers are beautiful) to having none has left us empty and sad. Gunner had allergies that required boots to be worn whenever he went outside. He was such a trooper. He never complained. Eventually he was euthanized due to suspected bladder cancer. It was heartbreaking. Bentley grieved his brother tremendously. He actually went to a covered box where we kept some of Gunner's things, sniffed it, laid down in front of it and moaned. He would go to where Gunner's cage had been and do something similar. He missed his brother so much. Bentley's health started to decline. His kidneys started to fail and his pancreatitis returned. He got very sick and suffered a few seizures. The agonizing decision was made to end his suffering. We miss our boys so much. We have so many memories of our boys. Although we cry often when we think of them, we smile often too. So many things they did made us laugh and smile. We could tell so many stories. We will never forget them.

Oh no, I am so very sorry, believe me I feel your pain. We lost both our boxers in a 4 month period, Charlie died aged 5 in September last year and Dino died aged 10 this January. It's unbelievable isn't it? You go one minute having everything to utter devastation in a heart beat. Like you say some days you smile and other days you cry x

Thank you for your kind words. I remember reading about Charlie and Dino and could relate to what you were going through at that time. My condolences to you also.

I am so sorry for your loss. I understand also. I lost my father and my first boxer 3 days apart. I kept thinking I was glad they could make the trip together. Hope warm, happy memories will be a comfort to you and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. :( Losing both boxers in such a short time would have been very devastating. It sounds like Bentley just didn't want to live without his brother. So sad! At least now they are playing together once again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Are you considering getting another boxer?

I am so very sorry! I do not even know what else to say. It is so hard when we lose our babies but two in such a short period of time has to be devastating. RIP sweet boys and you and your family will be in our thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't know what I would do if I lost two that close together. I would find some comfort to know they were at the bridge playing together. My heart goes out to you.

My heart hurts for you. Losing one is profoundly painful. But to have to say goodbye to two less than 2 weeks apart is unimaginable. You & your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope and pray that happy memories of your boys provide you with some comfort.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words. Yes, it was (and still is) very hard to lose both our beautiful boys so close together. We have so many memories of them that do provide us comfort. They will forever hold a place in our hearts. For now, there are no plans to have another dog (if that ever changes it will be a boxer). We plan on doing some travelling (something we couldn't do for years because the boys did not do well boarding).
