Dora is home !!

Hi all . Dora came home on Friday. It has been an interesting 3 days. She is so adorable! I will try to post her coming home pics. So , when do they sleep through the night I am soooo tired!! I am trying to crate train but she cries when ever I shut the door. It breaks my heart. We have been holding her in the middle of the night when she cries, will this spoil her? I am new at this.

Yes you will spoil her if you pick her up everytime she cries. But all of us spoil our boxers! How can you not! Our boxer, Roxy, is now 8 months old. She only goes in her crate while we are gone. She sleeps in her bed next to my side at night. She also has a bed in our family room. When we brought her home she had a small bed with sides and all her toys in it so she could curl up in a ball and sleep. We stayed home with her the first week and tried the gate in the laundry room deal, but she quickly learned how to climb that. But while we were home we exposed her to being in the laundryroom/crate. She would cry and howl, but would settle down. Once settled we'd get her out and tell her good girl. Now she plays in her crate. Good Luck and enjoy!

You need to close the door and let her cry it out. I know it's hard - but you have to be strong... Our puppy is 16 weeks; and the crying only lasted 2-3 nights... You have to get into the mind set that it is better and safer for Dora - and you want whats best for the baby.

On "trick" that made it work for us was that we let her fall asleep & carried her to the crate... When Chloe was 9 weeks (that's when we got her) we got up 2 every night to take her outside. You have to keep in mind that you can't take her out when she's crying and hitting the door; try to get her out before - or wait it out till after. Otherwise you'll be teaching her to cry. We went to bed at 11/11:30 and got up before 7 a.m. - so I had an alarm clock set for 2:15 and 4:45 to take Chloe out to potty. That way I woke her up - and she was still in the tired mode when I was putting her back in.

Oh, how I remember those sleepless nights!! If you haven't already, you may want to try placing the crate next to your bed at night so Dora won't feel so isolated. BTW, I am so glad that you decided to go ahead and name her Pandora's Box. Take plenty of pictures, they grow so fast! Enjoy ~ Cathy

Awwww, a new baby I'm so jealous Welcome home Dora!! Nothing like snuggling with a new furbaby and inhaling the sweet smell of their fur. We used one of those wind up alarm clocks ( like a big ben clock), wrapped it up in a blanket and put it outside the crate at night. Calmed all of our right down and off to dreamland they went. At least until it was potty time

Congrats on your new puppy! Good luck with the crate training. We have lucky so far with our new puppy. She just follows her big brother Zeus around the house and follows his lead.

Spoil????

LOL, How can you not spoil when you look at your precious baby's face. As for sleeping through the night, I've found if your boxer is snuggled between you and hubby, she sleeps through the night ( bonus is, when Cashew has to potty, hubby is usually first to get up with her) appicon. Do we spoil our boxers???? I refuse to answer as I may incriminate myself!!!!!!

Welcome home Dora!! appicon Looking forward to seeing some pics...they do grow so fast! All the crate advise given is good advise! I know it's hard to hear your baby cry, but she'll get over it real quick. When my babies were pups, I put their crates next to my bed and they stay settled all night! Being so tiny and away from the litter can be very stressfull for them at the beginning, but the transition should come quickly. Enjoy every second...nothing like a boxer puppy to add fullfillment to ones life!
