My Duke was the exact same way...the real funny thing is that the people who he did not like we eventually found out why...he was the best judge of charactor I have ever known....trust them...they could be right !!!!!!

I know, that's why I am now a little suspicious of this family. I will be watching them very closely from now on!

Vegas will be 1 year tomorrow. He has been coming to work with me since he was 8 weeks old. He is still intact but has never shown any aggression towards any person before aside from barking at the odd person through the window. That is different type of bark though. It is a "There's someone out there" bark. With this family, he is scared and you can tell he doesn't trust them.

Just reasure him that everything is OK and the most important part is that you are OK....you might notice that he will calm down some just knowing that you are listening to him and trusting his judgement. What a good boy you have there !!!!! You should really be proud of him...after all he is just protecting his mommy !!!!

The best of Luck ...

You mean Daddy:D

He is very protective of Mommy! Way more than he is with me.

He is a very good boy. I think we got really lucky with him. I know our next is going to be a little monster just becasue Vegas has been so good.

Omar is extremely wary of strangers - even more so when they enter our house than when he encounters them on the street (neutral territory).

I had my boss and a co-worker over for dinner a few weeks ago and when they arrived, Greg had just left to pick up Justice from after school care. Magnum settled down immediately and was ready to play, but Omar wouldn't stop growling and muttering under his breath with an occasional "woof" thrown in. He stayed real close to my side. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I was home alone and these were two strange men.

It makes it worse when the person Omar is growling at tries to make up to him - he won't have none of it. He has to warm up to someone on his own time.

I sat down with the guys and had Omar come over so they could pet him and eventually he was ok - by then Greg was home too. He was still wary, but he had stopped growling. But, greedy as Omar is, anytime Magnum went over to the guys for attention, Omar had to push his way in for some lovin' too.

There have been only three people that Oscar has reacted to this way. Two of the people didn't surprise us that he had this reaction with; however, one did. We couldn't figure out why he was acting this way with her --- HE GAVE HUGE WARNINGS and did not let this woman come near him or us. She seemed like a "great person" and she had three dogs herself. Come to find out, Oscar was right about her--- she is a very STRANGE individual indeed and she has since gone on to do some very threatening things to other people (she WAS my cousin's girlfriend).

He's been right on the mark every time he's displayed this behavior toward an individual. We now listen to him. :)

I would definitely not leave your dog unattended with this family, especially the children. He's picking up on something that doesn't quite sit right with him. :)

Good luck.

I've found the same as everyone else who has responded. There's only been a handful of people that Caesar hasn't liked. Very good reason for all of them. Trust in animal's and children's judgement. they are the most honest with their feelings!

Trust Your Dog's Instincts

Hi,

My 8-1/2 year old boxer Rusty was raised in a pharmacy around many different people, all colors, shapes and sizes. He has loved all of them but for one person, a guy that I used to go out with. Rusty was very timid of him, and did not want to go near him at all. I didn't understand why this was, since Rusty has always liked everybody. Turns out this guy is a thief and a con-artist, and was never one to be trusted. Rusty somehow sensed this, and never would warm up to him. Animals have a weird sense about people, and evidently, there is something about this family that your boxer does not like. You may never know why, but, trust your dog's instincts. He knows something that you may never know.

Sincerely,

Wendy, Rusty, Casey, Rocky, and Saddam
