don't know where else to put question

I also have a horse as well as a boxer. When horses do this, it is a sign that they need more nutrients/vitamins in their diet. It is nature's way of saying try something else b/c something is lacking. My puppy is almost 6mos. - when I take her to the barn she loves to eat horse poop! (I try to deter this of course!) What are you feeding your dog? Try adding a supplement and see if that helps! :)

Dax did this too. Vet suggested putting Mrs Dash in his dog food. Makes the food extra tasty, but the pooh not so good. It seemed to work. Now he just favors the kitty nuggets left in the front yard by the neighbors cat. Well, ssleighter suggested the products for pooh eating prevention. My vet said they work, but the problem is, they aren't free, and they only work when you put the stuff in the food. If they happen to find a turd in the yard that was from either before or after the food treatment, it won't do any good. THe Mrs Dash is cheap, and it worked great for me......let me know how it turns out!!!

Harley does this also. He will eat any poopies he can find. Brothers,sisters...his own. nonoicon I have 4 dogs and they all are fed Canidae. Hopefully it's just a phase because our Border Collie mix USED to do the same and seems to have outgrown it.

both our boxers have done this for a short period of time and it is usually due to 1 of 3 things, sometimes if they are missing something in their diet, a bad puppy habit or not to scare anyone because the above 2 are more common but as i read recently, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, which means the pancreas isnt fully formed, the exocrine section may be reduced or missing. It is usually a congenital problem and may not become evident until later in the dogs life. dogs with the disorder cant digest food properly. They may digest their own feaces{because these still smell of food.}Signs include, failure to put on weight, bulky feaces{due to undigested food retaining water} pallor and dry scruffy coat.

I thought I heard that if you give your dogs alfalfa supplements that it makes the poop taste nasty to them. Look in your local pet store that is where I saw a bottle of stuff for poo eaters. (They also have a bottle of stuff for gas and a boxer is on the front of it looking at it's butt lol.) I know Baylee likes the litter box, I use Feline Pine litter-it is pellets of pine that smell really good and when the kitty pees it turns into saw dust, well Bay will come into the living room with saw dust on her nose eeeewwww! I know where she's been!smashicon
Good Luck,

my poor couch

Jersey also went through a puppy phase of eating poop. Thankfully she learned fast that she isn't allowed in the basement (where the cat litter is), but instead turned to eating her own excrement. I was frustrated with trying to stop this behaviour, but one day after a particularily bad poop eating, her belly didn't take kindly to this 'food' and she threw it all up on our couch. What a horrible, stinky, disgusting wet mess that was!

Seems that incident cured her of her desire to eat poop. I'd done enough research to know that she'd grow out of it, so just hang in there and try to keep the yard as free of excrement as you can til your pup has also grown out of it.

Roxie loves to eat it...but she makes a game out of it..she plays with it and likes to be chased, then sometimes she tries to bring it in the house...I think its totally gross..I'm going to try the Mrs. Dash. She eats Canidae but I didn't notice her eating before we switched to that food. I may try another brand.

My boxer of a year also and I also have a Lab that is 3 that does this. It has became an extra special treat now that its frozen. They quit doing it for a while until the cold weather. I have used forbid and that seemed to help a little
