Like Matt, I think giving a bath to a young puppy is a very important experience to give her, if you want to wash her easily as an adult!!! Igor had two baths before his 4 months old, and his claws were cut each week!!! But be sure to use a very gentle soap (with my allergic girl, I found that Aveeno, a natural liquid soap for babies, work very well and smell soooo good, that's what I use now, with a rince with home made parsley tea, it makes them shine and have a soft skin and fur, not dry and without dandruff).

I feel better now. I thought about whether I should add my two cents in or not. As Tom said, boxers are amazingly clean dogs.

Samson is nearing 11 months old and I have given him one bath. This was after he spent 48 hours in the hospital, on an IV, and he just simply stunk (sorry).

My girls have not had baths. Now, they have had their paws and faces wiped. But otherwise, they don't seem to get dirty or stinky.

All of my boxers seem to clean themselves.

I do have a bottle of special dog shampoo on hand to use on the boxers if they need a bath. This special shampoo was given to me by the vet so that we do not wash off any flea or tick treatments. My boxers have never had fleas or ticks either and we live deep in the country.

If the dog needs a bath, I would think 8 weeks old is fine. I would be careful with giving frequent baths. I would be afraid to dry the coat out. My boxers have beautiful shiny coats.

Like some others... I only give my boxer a bath when he gets a little stinky. Which isn't very often. My mixed breed has a double coat (kinda like a german shepherd) and she needs baths about once per month, cuz her hair gets kinda oily. My Bichon needs a bath about once every 3 days! But, of course that is too much so I only do it about once every week or week and a half. Baby wipes are great in between baths. I use em to freshin the coat and even clean the ears.

personally think you should give him a bath or two when they are puppies for sure, I think its a good experience for them as far as socialization goes. Plus if you want him to like water when he's older that might be a good way to start. But like everyone else said, dont do it alot. Just when needed

Lily has a little problem with me picking her up and putting her in the tub. I don't think I gave her enough baths when she was a puppy. I think you should give puppies plenty of baths, even if you don't use soap, just put them in the tub and pour a little water over them and dry them off, just to get used to being in a tub. They dry in 5 minutes.

Thanks for all the replys... we'll be giving Courage a bath on Sunday when it is hot in the afternoon...

We didn't bathe BooBoo much when he was young and he was always afraid of the water... I used to have to entice him into the bathroom and lock the door behind me to prevent him from running... but now that he is past 2, I just call to him and say "let's take a bath"... and he follows me in and steps into the shower stall without me having to do anything... My sweetheart never fails to amaze me... (so there is hope out there for some of you guys...)

Poor Courage, what big shoes she has to match up to...
