Dominate behavior or just normal Boxer?

Here lately, whenever I get down to Lukas level (on the ground playing with him) and even sometimes just standing close to him, he will turn around and try to either sit on me or very very close to me. Or he will turn his backside around to where he is leaning on me, practically putting his entire body weight against me. So much, that if I move back quickly, he will almost fall completely over!!

Whenever he starts doing this, I usually spin him around to where he is not leaning or sitting on me but he tries to go right back to that position again. So I usually try and move or focus his attention on/to somewhere else. When my now ex used to bring her Shih tzu over, he would always try to "sit" on her when they were playing (if you could call it playing). That, I know was him trying to be dominate and would always pull him away. So is this the same thing and what is the best way to break him of this? Also, what is the best way to introduce him to smaller dogs. He does fine with dogs his size and larger, of course, they can go toe for toe with him, but I'm just very cautious to have him around any smaller breed of dog.

Hmmmmm....interesting read.

Thanks for the link Lafsalot. Maybe he's just wanting "more" attention after all. I don't mind it, I just wanted to put a stop to it if in fact it was a dominate trait.

Thanks again!

Hi Explorer,

My 5 year old female (Angel) used to do the same thing! She sat practically on top of me, and when we are sleeping she always has to be touching me. I don't think it is a dominanace issue, I agree with the link that Lafsalot posted that it is more of an attention seeking behaviour. If it doesn't bother you, then I would just let it be, good luck!!!

Fiona always wants to be touching us. She will stand on us too.

Jewel does this too and she is 76lbs, she just loves attention and if you ignore her all 76lbs will up and move onto your lap (invited or not) She also does the lean thing, I always assumed she felt secure enough with us that she was letting her guard down and relaxing (she also got butt rubs when she did this)

I don't think it is a dominance thing at all. More of a pet me, love me, spoil me thing.

Haha, Luka cracked me up today. We were outside enjoying the day and I was sitting on the grass. Well, he came up, as usual and sat next to me on my right side. So I was scratching him and starting scratching his chest and he flips his head back....lost his balance and did a complete flip across my lap and just layed there on my left side. He's only 9 months but still pushin 60 pounds....it was quite the site. My neighbors probably thought I was loosing it I was laughing so hard!! :)

Hahahahaha...Explorer that sounds hilarious! I could totally picture that in my head!! Last night, my 6 month old male; Bing, climbed up on the couch to nap. He plops down just about ANYWHERE he can curl his little body! Needless to say, last night he plopped himself on top of the BF, with his head on my lap....he kept on stretching out, he was lying on his back with all 4 feet in the air...I couldn't stop giggling....everytime he stretched, his paws would hit Angel (5 yr. old female) in the nose...she eventually got fed up and went to the other couch!! These little guys are so entertaining!!!!
