I am giving her b-naturals (Aspen) cranberry tablets twice daily. I think there is 250mg in each capsule. I'm just hoping there is something that can finally cure her.

For comparison I was giving KOKO 2-3 capsules twice a day of the following strength during the antibiotics ( 1 course for 3 weeks and a year later one course for a month) and for the rest of her life after getting an infection twice:

"Each of our concentrated (140 mg.) Cranberry Softgels provide the equivalent of (1680 mg.) of fresh cranberry juice plus (100 mg.) of Vitamin C. "

Another thing to talk to the vet about if you are having problems with reoccuring infections is whether it is really a new infection or just that the old one was never really cleared up. Typically antibiotics are given for 10 days. In cases where the infection keeps coming back a longer course of antibiotics may be required. 4-6 weeks.

KOKO's infection always came back about 1 week after the 2 weeks of antibiotics were so done. We were basically back to square one with the same infection. After a second round of antibiotics for 3 weeks it finally cleared up.

Her second infection a year later did the same thing - it reoccurred after 1 week ( after being on antibiotics for 2 weeks previous) and a second course of antibiotics for 4 weeks finally did the trick.

Kona thanks for that. After a culture was done we've even had Lexie on the correct antibiotic for a long course....6 weeks. After the antibiotic she always has another UA to make sure the infection is gone. Lexie is a 'lemon'.....what can I say?!? :)

Thanks for the info about the pool strips Jaimie, I had no idea. Actually we have a pool so I have already got the PH strips. We'll have to give that a shot. I am hoping with the last UTI gone we won't get another one but I'm not holding my breath

Awww she's not a lemon. If she was she would be nice and acidic ( her system) and not get those nasty UTI's. :)

Make sure to get her started on cranberry pills while she is on the antibiotics and continue 3 pills twice a day even after the infection is gone. She may need to stay on them her entire life. Eventually, you may be able to back off to two pills twice a day.

If the vet is confirming her clear of the infection than the cranberry may be the trick to prevent future ones. Certainly worth a try. The idea is to keep her system on the acidic side (above 7 on the ph scale ) which the bacteria growth does not favor.

Kona, a question about the cranberry pills though....I thought I read somewhere on BW that depending on the type of crystals they have the cranberry may make the UTI worse. I'll have to search again for the thread. Have you heard of that before ?
