Dogs/Barking & other Dogs

Help...My Rocky is 14 months old now. I have tried to socialize him with other dogs. When he was a puppy, he would play a lot with another boxer and rot puppy here in the neighborhood. Since then one has moved and the other doesn't come out much. Rocky pretty much stays inside now. We have six cats and two other small dogs Rocky loves and plays well with, but by golly he sees another dog and thats it. Rocky just goes crazy!!! We took Rocky to Petsmart today and he just broke loose from my daughter and attacked another dog. I couldn't get him to come for nothing. There was no breaking that up. The other ladies dog slipped out of its collar and I was able to keep hold of Rocky. He is so good, but when he sees another dog there is absolutely nothing uglier. Please help. I couldn't think of any other better socializing than having all the animals in our house we already have. You would think when Rocky saw another dog he would be tickled and friendly just like at home. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

I would suggest an obedience class. there will be other dogs around for socialization and he will be learning commands at the same time.
dogs will sometimes be ok with the pets they live with because they are in "their environment" and feel safe, but will become offensive or defensive when you take them away from their comfort zone.

I recently had a problem with Scout doing this at the vets office. She went after a Lab puppy. I too have other pets in the house and was absolutely shocked by her behavior. I plan on doing an obedience class in January in hopes that she will get some manners. I can completely sympathize with you, but I have no advice to offer.
