Completely Boxer Crazy
I have heard several people post on the boards about giving their dog a timeout if they are getting out of control. I was wondering what you exactly do. I know you are not suppose to use the crate as punishment and I haven't been, but I have been in situations where a timeout would be warranted, but not sure what to do and would be interested to hear what others do. Thanks in advance.

I just tell Maximus crate! and he goes to his crate, if after a min. or so if he tries to come out i say crate again and he goes back in. I only make him stay for 4 min. or so, you can see by the expression on his face that he knows he in trouble, but when comes he's all wag's and wiggles.

TyDog

Boxer Buddy
We use timeouts with Ty all the time because he is super mouthy. I found a product at PetSmart, I think it was called "The Stay." It has a bracket that attaches to the bottom of a door (no screws or anything) with a short leash on the end. We've placed it in an area where there is nothing Ty can get into.

When he gets really mouthy and bites us, we say "ouch" and then take him to time out. We leave him there for about 30 seconds, watching out of the corner of our eye to make sure he doesn't hurt himself. Then we take a toy over, and make friends again. Sometimes we have to take him 4 times in a row but it seems to catch on. I've been told that we need to be consistent and patient.

When Remy was younger, I would put her in the downstairs half bath, with the light on and the garbage off the floor for about 20-30 seconds. This worked when she was in her puppy attack mode, when nothing else worked at all. I only had to do it a few times before she stopped all together.

I will actually put Payton in a "sit-stay", or "down-stay".
It really works, and it gets his attention and at the same time calms him down.
Good luck!

Luke's BFF (pug elway) gets a time out when he barks alot at nothing. His parents and us (when he stays over) tells him to go to his bed. He gives you the biggest bulgiest eyes ever and goes and lays down in his bed with a huge sigh! But he stops barking!
