Just rescued a little white male saturday. He is quarentined in a room while we watch his upper respitory system. He coughs some. But he is doing fine.

My other Boxer, a 4 year old female, knows he is there but hasnt been allowed to meet him for above reasons. She has gone into what appears to be a depression. distant look in her eyes, pinned back ears and tail, won't eat or play. Just sleeps and lies around. Has anyone experienced this????? I hope once she gets to meet the new guy and play(of course she will put him in his place) she will get over this. Its very strange.

How sad

I've never experienced this myself with Ruby but Boxers are very tuned into what is going on around them and they express their feelings freely.. poor thing :( How long will you have to qurantine the baby Boxer?).
I hope she eats SOMETHING soon! Keep an eye on that aspect... if this continues maybe a routne "checkup" with the vet???

I would watch her food intake and also notice if you are babying the other one more since he is sick. Boxers are very keen as to what is going on around them and she may be feeling a little left out. If not, you may want to keep an eye on her and make sure she is feeling well herself. Respiratory infections that are contagious are carried in the air and she may be catching some of the bug herself as direct contact is not needed. Also make sure you wash your hands after dealing with the sick one as you can transfer bacteria from your hands and also through your clothing!

Hi there,
I'm guessing your boxer girl is just trying to figure out her new situation. A checkup at the vet couldn't hurt, but more likely its just she's confused about what's going on. Yes, I have seen a similar situation when my friend "babysat" a guinea pig for a week. Her dog, Jasmine, would whine a lot and walk around with its tail tucked under. Jasmine was fine once the guinea pig went back home. I'm currently a foster home for boxer's, and my roommate has a 14 year old male German Shepherd mix, Kimba. The lady that heads the boxer rescue organization warned me that all dogs react to new dogs differently. Luckily for me, Kimba is too tired, old, and deaf to care to much about these younguns that keep sleeping on his pillow. I'd be interested on how these two get along once they're introduced!

Well alls well, thanks to those who responded. Turns out Annie's muscles in her back legs were very stiff, and that was part of the problem. The New boy has already gained 15 lbs, and is a wild one. they are loving each other, and playing all the time. Now the real fun begins, training the former stray.

Good luck with the training! :) What did you end up naming the rescue?
