My 2 1/2 yr old male boxer gets "doggie acne"!!!!! Has anyone heard of this? If so, how can it be treated?

Where is it? On his chin? This can be caused by bacteria on the feeding bowl. You should use stainless steel bowls and clean them frequently. The plastic ones harbor bacteria even when cleaned often.

Otherwise you can wash the acne with a mild antisceptic to prevent further outbreaks.

Scrapper had this too. Although I kind of chalked it up to him being in the adolescent stage (about 1 - 1 1/2 years old) I was also using plastic dishes. Even though I washed them every time I fed him, I decided to change to stainless. Either Scrapper grew up, or changing the bowls helped, because he no longer has it.

We use stainless steel bowls and have so since he was a puppy. And I clean the bowls regularly. The acne is just on his chin. I dont think they itch him, because I never see him scratching. The doctor gave him Cephalexin to clear them up, but he vomits the medicine up! So I'm trying to find out what else works. Also, how to prevent them. He's gotten 2 outbreaks this year and 2 last year. Thanks for the input!!!!

I had the same problem with Cyrus, He looked like he had little pimples on his chin( I always thought he was going thru puberty). At the time I worked for a Verterinarian, I took him to work like normal, and had her look at him. We washed it up real good with Chlorhexiderm soap and changed his bowls to Staniless steal. I also kept a package of Stridex acne pads at home to wipe it from time to time. It woprked great and they went away. You can get a bottle of the soap from your Veterinarian, you may already have some from a cut paw or some other accident they seems to get into.
