dog w/ tumor behind kiver-- drinking alot and swollen what di I do

My 12 yr old Mitzi is a mini schnauzer- we just found a growth behind her liver last week- she's been sick for awhile- my main concern tonight is that she's very swollen in her mid-section and is drinking water like crazy. She's urinating ok if that matters.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for pain control and stomach upset relief? She's got colitis/ibd so she eats only duck/potato natural balance w/ 1 tsp yogurt abd 1 tsp pumpkin a day. She has frequent bloody loose stools. I'm really worried about the swelling-- any ideas? I'm taking her to the vet Tues for blood work- do I need to call him before that?

I realize that it is a holiday in the US, but I would phone my vet. If you can't get in touch with them, I would phone the local emergency vet and see what they say. 5 days could be too long to wait.

what do I do until morning- it's midnight here

Now I'm getting concerned-- is it ok to wait til morning to call my vet?- I'm afraid my husband will have a fit if they tell me to bring her into a ER at this midnight hour- there is no 24 hr vet where we live-
I've been agonizing over having to make any decisions later on and just today I prayed that she would just go to sleep when it's time. I just need to know that she isnt in any pain- I've been giving her aspirin and she doesn't act any worse than usual- she's cuddled up sleeping now- how do I know what to do?? This is so hard- I've had her since before my 4 human kids were born- I can't imagine not having her here- but I dont want her to suffer- thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear that Mitzi is not doing so well. I grew up with miniature schnauzers, and I know how loving they are. I don't really know what to tell you for sure, but since she's sleeping right now, and isn't acting miserable, I'd say go ahead and wait til morning then call your vet asap. Just keep an eye on her through the night and love on her extra. Good luck. Let us know how she does.

she's hanging in there---

The swelling has gone down and she doesn't seem to be in alot of pain. I didn't feed her much today- just enough to giver her meds . (although it went right through her). I bought missing link and prozyme today in hopes that they will help take the load off her system- we'll see. I'm also considering a low carb diet since I read that tumors feed off of carbs. I need to do more research on that. She's just been laying around or sleeping all day- lots of cuddles and hugs. I know she isn't too bad off when she lets my 2 year old give bear huggies!! The vet is ready to put her on pain meds whenever I say the word- I just hate to do that but I know it's time.He says as long as she's still eating and not throwing up and having stools (loose is better than none he said) then we just make her comfortable. We have tried everything to get her stools right- duck and potato worked until a few weeks ago. Now its back to the drawing board. It's very hard- this is the first time I've been through this with a pet. I lost my mom from cancer almost 3 years ago so it brings back alot of memories. At least I know Mitzi will have company in heaven (although I dont think Mom will be thrilled- she wasn't crazy about dogs- hahaha-) Thanks alot for your advice and support- Any additional ideas would be appreciated.

We had to let Mitzi go......

On Wednesday our little 12 year old schnauzer went night night for the last time. She wasn't able to keep anything down- either throwing up or diarreah- she was getting listless and obviously very much uncomfortable. It was time to say good-bye. It's amazing how a house with 2 adults, 4 kids and a puppy can seem so empty. I want to thank all of you for your advice and support. I found this poem last night that I wanted to share...
