Dog Run Security

We are currently in the process of building a dog run and landscaping our backyard and due to the theft of a boxer from one of our local dog parks have become concerned with the security of leaving our dogs outside. We had hoped to make the run quite large so covering it completely would be cost prohibative (and probably quite ugly). But how else could you secure it? Most chain link can be cut with large wire cutters or bolt cutters. Wraught iron with a dead bolt would work but can get expensive. Or am I just paranoid?

rather paraniod than sorry, right? We actually did the same thing, putting up a run. However, I would never leave him alone outside unattended or while I was gone, too risky even if you like is suburbia, haha. Throughout the time he has been a puppy, we built a small fence that we got a Lowe's. It won't be tall enough for when he is full grown though, only like 3.5 feet tall! I would suggest putting up a fence, but seeing as it is pretty expensive ( we can't afford it right now, plus we are renting) that is not always an option. I would get the run, and put him/her on it only when you are home and can supervise him. just my thoughts

I personally prefer to crate them in the house but our first skin baby is due in two weeks and we really need a place outside where they can be secure and enjoy the nice spring days. The second problem is that otis has issues holding it. He is 99% potty trained. When we are home he will go to the door when he needs to go out. It has actually been quite awhile since he had an accident but if he has to go while he is in his crate whether it has 15 min., 2 hours, or 4 hours he has no second thaughts about lifting his leg and shooting it out the side.

I was thinking fenced in. A place they could be safe if say the gardener came or if they had to be out of the house while people were delivering furniture or something without being able to tear up the yard.
