I have a 6 month old boxer and he is always throwing up. We have tried all kinds of food but he still throws everything up. Is this normal? What can I do to stop it? IS there a special food he needs to be on? Please help.

Carley used to have this problem too. When we changed her food to Nutro...I believe it was oatmeal and chicken formula...for sensative stomachs, it helped alot. We had to be careful though, not to give her any table scraps that might upset her tummy.

It is possible that he has a food allergy. And it is also possible that you have a dog that simply cannot tolerate kibble (not every dog can).

Has he been checked by a vet for any physical abnormalities? How often does he vomit anyway, is it after every meal, daily, a couple of times a week? Particular times of day? Also, which foods specifically have you tried him on? Lots of questions, I know, but really a lot more information is needed to be able to offer any useful suggestions.

Is he throwing up, or regurgitating his food? How long after eating does he throw up? Does he appear to be skinny or malnourished? Is he lethargic just prior to throwing up?

Some dogs routinely regurgitate some or all of their food shortly after eating, which has nothing to do with an upset stomach, the cause of vomiting.

Ava is a gobbler when she eats. My guess is that she eats so rapidly, she ingests some air along with her food. It is common for her to be walking away from her bowl and to suddenly expel or belch up some of her food, which she promptly cleans up. The regurgitation is more like a burp. There is no retching or stomach contractions which generally accompany vomiting.

A woman in our rescue had a dog that would do this. Essentially what they found was his flap in the throat that let's food down, did not function properly (I cannot remember the technical name). He then would in turn throw up immediately after eating on a regular basis. The number one remedy this woman found was after her boy would eat she needs to ask for an up (Standing on hind legs, front up on her) That would allow gravity to assist in getting the food past the flap.
Not sure if this is of any help at all this I cannot remember the diagnosis, but something to consider.

Big rocks in food

My lab would often throw up right after he ate his food. We started feeding him 3 times a day instead of 2, and put three great big rocks in his food to make him slow down. So far, so good!
