I took Sarge to the dog park yesterday and he loves it! I love seeing him running around free! He has so much energy. So this man with his 10 month old pit comes and he introduces himself and his dog. his name is Major. so we talked for a few. Later on he took his dog off the leash and sarge went over to go play. Now my dog loves to play so he was all over Major. then his owner is like Who's dog is this"?? I was like hes mine. he didnt say anything else. so I let Sarge do his thing. He was mainly hanging out with the group of pits that were there. Then I just see Major's owner pointing over to me. so I went over and asked the other owners if Sarge was causing trouble. they said no. So I stood around and Sarge went back to Major and the owner goes "WHATS WRONG WITH YOU"?? to Sarge. I was like what the hell is this guy's problem they are playing. So I took sarge and we went some where else to play. I dont understand why he was so annoyed with sarg and if he had a problem all he had to do was to tell me he didnt have to yell at Sarg like that. I was pissed! If he didnt like other dogs playing with him he should freaking leave! then all you hear this guy doing is yelling at his dog. "MAJOR NO! MAJOR STOP! I mean I didnt even see Major doing anything! Everyone was just staring at this guy like he has issues! You arent suppose to yell at them I felt so bad for Major. Sarge finally left him alone and jumped in the kiddie pool they have for the dogs!! too cute he didnt want to get out! He had so much fun I loved it! I hope when I go there again this guy isnt there!

I don't know why people take their dogs to dog parks and then get mad when the other dogs play with them. They need to just stay home. I could see if Sarge was attacking his dog, but that does not sound like the case here. Maybe he is a little paranoid since he has a pit that his dog would overreact? Anyway, at least your baby had a good time.

Don't let it get to you, this happens to me on a regular basis at the park. Some people have a hard time knowing when a dog is just playing with another dog and not hurting it. I've actually had people tell me that my dog is attacking their dog, meanwhile he is just playing and having fun and has no intention on hurting anyone.

I really don't get why people like this go dog parks, they hate it when another dog comes up to their dog and wants to play, i've also had one person tell me that they are going to "put the boots to my dog", it's unreal what some people are like.

I can sympathize, but I've also been on the other side of it. I've had dogs that just won't relent keep pestering my girl until she has snapped at them. The dogs weren't aggressive or vicious, but just wouldn't stop following her and trying to get her to play. And they were very physical with lots of body contact. They would just keep it up even when she was clearly signalling to them that she wanted no part of it--turning the head, raising the paw, averting her eyes, walking away, low grumble, etc. These weren't bad dogs, just rude ones. At that point, it is up to the owner to recognize that their dog's behavior is unwanted by the other dog, and to either move to another part of the park or distract/redirect their overly playful dog. My girl is playful and does enjoy play with other dogs, but not every dog. When she is being appropriate with her signals, other owners have to get that and step up and do something about their dog. Yes, it's my responsibility to move to other areas with her if there is a dog that is showing unwanted attention, but the other owners have to do their part and make sure their dog doesn't keep pestering.

Dog parks are awesome if you get a good group of owners around. Ones that will look out for all dogs and not just their own. I mean that they know what they are talking about and know what breeds like to do what...etc.. I have been there when other owners are thinking my boxer is a nasty pitbull, which i don't see how they can get that. But I have also been there and apologized for my dog jumping on a dog or owner(he only does it to ppl her likes..lol) and they are like don't worry about it, that just comes with the breed, and starts to play with Zeus.

But their is this one dog that does not get along with Zeus, a golden retriever. Twice now his gotten his butt kicked by the retriever. Each time their was nothing Zeus had done, the other dog just attacked him, within seconds of coming into the park. And of course my big baby, keeps trying to play and lick while he is bleeding. Now he is actually starting to learn to growl at a dog when they growl at him.

What i try to do is if their is a huge crowd at the park i will avoid it until it calms down. Just to try to avoid some dogs owners. But like someone said above, don't let one bad apple ruin it. You will have many a run in's and difference of opinions at the dog park. But just make the best of it.

Sorry you had such a bad experience...we've also had a few of those ourselves...but Cody loves the dog park so much that i could never take that away from him. I don't know about everyone else's boxers, but Cody is a very physical "player". He uses his paws and lunges when he wants to play and some owners take that as him attacking their dogs. Besides just being a negative person, that guy probably just doesn't get the boxer way of playing. Hopefully that gentleman doesn't return to the park to ruin anyone else's experience.

I have had issues at the dog park similar to that. My guy is a very energetic player and some owners don't understand that at all. I have also been on the other side of it, when owners don't realize there dog is crossing the line in my opinion. I don't take Hank to the dog park anymore, since the last time I was there two owners just chatted while there dogs teamed up on Hank, and he got bit. But if you have responsible owners there it can be great for the dogs.

I live in the UK so I don't really understand the 'dog park' thing could someone explain? I dont think we have them. I currently walk my girl on an empty sports field we cant have doggie friends because she doesnt like other dogs though we are working on it and now not every dog is potential food, its every other dog :)

a dog park is where you can take your dog off leash and they can socialize and play with other dogs. some also have agility courses. its fenced in so your dog cant escape. they can run around free and have a good time. is that a good decription? if someone else can explain it more please do so.
