We took tyson to a dog park today. It was his first time at a park.It was also the first time he was around so many dogs.( about 15) He was pretty well behaved, although he did jump on a lady and almost knocked her over.( have to work on the jumping issue apparently) There was a pitbull there and him and tyson were running around having a good time. Next thing I knew they were fighting. It didn't last very long as me and the pits owner broke it up. Ty had a little cut on his jowel which we cleaned with peroxide when we got home. It could have been a lot worse. A couple minutes after the fight ty spit up white foam. Anybody know what it could be? Was it from nerves? I have no idea what it was.The pits owner said he had all his shots. I'll probably take him to the vet tomorrow for a check up on his mouth. We'll start looking for another park to go to as well. Thanks all.

Sorry to hear about the fight. :( Dog parks can be great for socialization when something like this doesn't happen.. I wouldn't completely give up on that particular park, but it's up to you. I've had mostly great experiences at the park I take my boys to. There was one day when a couple aggressive dogs were there, and one tried to attack my Tyson (Tyson just sat there and the other dog lost interest pretty quickly), but I haven't seen those dogs there since.

Dogs fight, but as neither got seriously hurt I wouldn't worry. They both got carried away. The worst thing you can do it stop going to the park. What you need to do it stop the playing every 30 seconds, or when ever it is getting a liitle out of hand. Have them sit and then let them go play again.

My girl gets extremely excited during play with other dogs. She also has on occasion thrown up, usually just the same white foam with water. That is our clue that she is done, whether she wants to stop or not, she usually doesn't! I can usually tell when she has had enough, way before she will admit tiredness.

sorry to hear about the dog park incident. i've had a few experiences there myself, but the positive far outnumber the negative. apollo has never been in a big fight, as i have been lucky enough to stop it before it goes that far. i have found it to be a great place for apollo to socialize with other dogs as well as a great place to talk to other fellow dog lovers. it is unfortunate that sometimes the dogs do get a bit out of hand, but as long as you keep a close eye on your dog,(and others') it should be a good time. unfortunately, some dog owners are to be blame for the incidents that take place at the dog park, mostly due to lack of proper socialization or supervision. hope tyson gets to go back and have other friends.
in regards to the white foam, i'm not sure what exactly it could be, but one time apollo drank too much water too quickly and ended up throwing it back up and it was white and foamy. perhaps your dog was just a bit stressed due to the encounter. hope he feels better.

Thanks folks. I called the vet and she said what you all said, just being excited made her spit up that stuff. That and being a little dehydrated probably was another cause. My gf is a little hesitant (sp?) about going back, but we probably should. thanks again all.

Boomer loves going to the dog park. Im luckly hes pretty sunmissive to other dogs but is pretty vocal when he plays and that freaks people out a bit. I have seen two boxers get into a bit of a fight when I was there also. One of the boxers has had some trouble in the past with males that arent neutered from what the owner told me. Try again maybe on a time when its not so crowded. Or only stay for a little while. I'm from MA also and we go to one in Sharon where there are two seperate fenced in areas which is helpful if any dogs need some time to cool down.

Sapphire gets foamy when she gets excited. She also gets a little foamy and very drooly when she sees me getting her food ready. I mean there might be a little pool of drool on the floor when I get her meal ready. I just hope that people don't see her like that....don't want her being called a "vicious" dog.

Like the others, I wouldn't give up on the park just yet. However, I believe our dogs can sense our (and others) uneasiness. If you gf is really uncomfortable, I wouldn't take her. Tyson will sense it and could get worked up and act out (Basil has done this when I'm upset). I hope you'll give it a try and have a good experience.

Capone gets very foamy whenever we go play at the dog park. I think it is from all the excitement. Maude was the same way. I am always hoping other people will know that and not think they are rabid. ;)
