I just thought that it would be interesting to discuss what you all think the best dog food is. I happen to feed my pup Biljack. She was very picky and once she tried that she loved it. She has never had any skin problems and doesnt have too many stools. I just wanted to see what other people think...

I also feed Chicken Soup for the Dog lover's soul. My dogs look great. Their coat is so shiny and soft! I never thought that their food wouldn't be very good. Thank goodness for BW!

I acutally feed my dog Nutro Natural Choice, Large Breed, Lamb and Rice formula. It's a dry food. I was using Iams and found out what all they use in their formula. My very good friend told me about the Nutro brand. My boy loves it too.

The WDJ is the Whole Dog Journal (you'd find them online). They do a lot of very good articles on pet care and issues. They also do an annual list of quality foods... If you care to do an internet search on terms like "what's really in pet food" and "4-D meats" you might be just a little concerned with what you find ;) But you'll be a lot better informed, too.

Selecting a good dog food isn't really that hard, or at least, not once you get used to reading the labels and understand what the various ingredients actually are (they do have official definitions - and it's not necessarily what you might hope). In the most basic terms, you should choose a food with at least two named (species) meat sources in the top five ingredients, that never uses by-products or problematic ingredients such as wheat, corn, soy or beet pulp.

There is more information on how to choose a good quality dry dog food at www.boxerworld.com/feeding And if you do a search of the forum here with the term WDJ* you'll find the latest list that they put out. They're not affiliated with any food manufacturers, so their selection is unbiased. And their selection criteria is similar to that outlined on our feeding page (though they do accept corn and wheat if they're whole grains or organic).

I feed Maxwell Chicken Soup but I am going to start rotating his food. I am doing research to find out what to rotate with. He loves the CS and his coat is beautiful. Many people ask me what I feed him cause he looks so good. (including his trainer)

I'm still trying to find something that AJ will eat. He doesn't like any kibble and I don't want to feed raw. I'm going to let him finish this bag of Nutro Ultra and then get the California Natural. He has allergies really bad and I have a hard time with his food. He is getting hot spots and his coat is very dry and itchy. Hopefully the California natural will help him - I saw that one of the moderators said that it contains very basic ingredients. We'll see -
