Our four year old boxer is beginning to follow my wife everywhere (to the bathroom, into the small kitchen panty, etc). While the dog has always been in the same room as us, he now will not leave my wife alone. She is almost at her due date with our first child -- could this be a reason for the constant following?

Hi,

My sister-in-law just gave birth and when she was near the end of her pregnancy her boxer girl would not leave her alone. She also stopped jumping up at her which is something she always used to do. She would lay her head on my sister-in-laws lap just below the baby bump and would sometimes just stare at it for ages!

Dogs can definately sense when a woman is pregnant. It's amazing! I would say this definetly the reason he is following your wife.
How cute!

Years ago, one of my boxers (Sprout) followed my sister around and sat by her during her pregnancy, whenever she was nearby. We worked together at that time. Three years later, before she even knew she was pregnant with her third child, Sprout started doing the same thing. Sure enough, she was pregnant and only a few weeks along. He was sure a cheap pregnancy test.

While our boxer boy wasn't particularly interested in my pregnancy, my sister's dog was very watchful of her when she was pregnant. When my sister was in early labor at home, she took her dog for a walk. Every time she had a contraction, the dog would walk in front of her to stop her from walking until the contraction passed. They just have a sixth sense about these things, some more than others!
