I made both my guys coats - can't beat custom made :)

It was REALLY easy. I have never made anything in my life and I was able to make two coats in an afternoon (I am sure more experienced sewers would have take much less time).

We go to the dog park everyday and I find that when they get playing they will sometimes pull on the coats or other dogs will bite at them, but becuase it was so cheap, I don't care or worry, if they get ruined I will just make another one!

I do however wish I put some reflective tape on them, I will do that next time.

I will try and post some pictures.

not sure

i have read your posts and i am not sure if my babies should get or need coats. i have always been a bit against "canine apparel" always thought it was somewhat silly, but knowing that boxers are very sensitive to temp. changes i am not sure now...
i guess my questions is...should i consider this sort of thing?
i live in concord north carolina and the temps can get down in the low 30's to (possibly) upper 20's on our walks in the morning during the winter season. we walk for about 20-30 minutes in the morning. in the afternoon the temps are not as cold...anywhere from 35-55 depending on the day. i am curious as to your opinions on "doggie wear"

I think your dog will tell you. My two walks on 3 paws after 10 minutes outside and shiver, so it means boots and coats for them! But I'm in Québec, and it very cold here!

my babies haven't seemed too cold yet...i guess it's just best to wait and see, like you said.

You can see the coat I made for Igor in my gallerie. Not a very clear picture though... It's in fleece inside and waterproof outside, and adjust very well.

I am not very handy so I ended up ordering coats from http://www.dogcoats.com/

You can see photos in my gallery they are really nice warm coats, very well made, and the straps are adjustable so they should still fit even if they fill out as they get a little older. :)

When Ozzy was small he had slip over sweaters, now he has a velcro coat that he slips his paws into and it velcros closed down the middle, i had it altered a bit undeneath so he wouldn't pee on it, there is a picture with him in my gallery "snow" you can see it from the back only, it also has a pocket on top to carry poop bags:LOL: Its nice and thick and warm, I just wish it had a hoodie!

My guys have coats very similar to the custom made ones in the link.

Essentially the same design but with a fleece turtleneck that slips over the head, rather than a strap in the front. the material is a goretex type outside with polar fleece lining, and they were custom made by a seamstress friend of mine.

Dogs seem to like them..they get all excited when they see me take them out of the closet. I'm satisfied with the fit, and the dogs do seem warm enough in them

Cheers,
